Same exact thing almost happened to me but I was driving a tractor trailer on the DC beltway
I was in right lane and pickup in middle lane little bit in front. Rt rear wheel popped off his truck and started bouncing down my lane about 10ft in the air right in front of me!
I was slowing down like crazy so I wouldn’t run into it. It finally found it’s way over to the shoulder where it hit a jersey barrier and flew up and over the side of the road.
Had to change my drawers after that!
What a freak accident, hope everyone survived.
The wheel came back for a second strike at the target. Were there survivors?
It seems to me that this shows one of the main drawbacks of teeny tiny econoboxes.
Or oversized off-road tires not meant to be installed on a Toyota Taco.
Look closely at the pickup truck. The wheels look to be mounted on extenders that make them stick out. That could be why the wheel came of - a stupid modification by a stupid redneck. (if the video is even real, deep fakes are so good I don’t believe what I see anymore)

The video along with some of the comments made my laugh to tears. I don’t know why. But it’s pretty funny.
Those little boxy cars just get destroyed in an instant. Dang man, don’t buy those rolling coffins.
Ban all assault wheels. Especially the high capacity ones. And I’ve noticed the largest number of them are an aggressive black color.
I bought a used truck one time that had wide oversized tires and wheels. They were impossible to align and made the steering and handling so much much worse.
Rather than put normal tires and wheels on the truck I just sold it as is. Mostly because it was a Ram truck. Don’t ever buy a Ram truck.

Guy about a half mile ahead of me was going up an overpass when the boat he was towing came off the trailer.
Over torque is a heck of a thing.
Seems this is a drawback of idiots driving trucks who don’t secure their wheels properly.
This looks like a HORRIBLE, FATAL accident caused by improperly installed custom wheels! A pickup with oversized wheels & tires sticking out JUST LIKE THAT was driving in front of me on Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler, TX just last week!
CLEARLY the pickup’s fault! No consolation to the dead, however.
