“Yep. And it’s not DeSantis’s job to have to comment on everything Trump does.”
It’s not about commenting on everything Trump does. It’s the politicization and weaponization of our government that people want addressed. We are turning into a banana republic in front of our very eyes. DeSantis may not like Trump, but Trump is a former President who’s running for re-election. If the bureaucratic state can take out politicians it doesn’t like, through weaponized government, then we no longer have a republic.
THAT’s what people want to hear our public officials discuss. And THAT’s what a leader should be talking about, because it’s one of the greatest issues of our time. Now if DeSantis really DOESN’T have future Presidential aspirations, then I suppose his silence is disappointing, but no big deal. But if he does eventually announce his candidacy, as many of us suspect he will, then his silence on the matter is a big deal, and shows a real lack of leadership on his part. A leader puts the wellbeing of the country ahead of personal animosity. And a leader gets out in front of important issues instead of hiding from them.
I briefly taught at a prep school (also public school substitute teaching in Alameda and Contra Costa County, East Bay SF which was a horror show) when I was in grad school; even in the bad old days of the early 2000’s when Ron was teaching (I am about the same age) this was regarded as a big no-no, and was explicitly mentioned in orientation. I understand the inclination to orient towards people close to your own age and outlook but was always inappropriate and fraught with danger, and don’t think this won’t become a bigger issue should Ron become nominee (hopefully never).
That clock has run out. Checking with handlers to decide if you stand for the rule of law and against politicizing our system of justice just means DeSantis is an empty suit.
DeSantis should do what's best for the nation and get off the stage,
RDS is controlled by big donors who hate Trump. He’d be accused of biting the hand that’s feeding him if he said a word. These are not people who give a damn about principles or rule of law.
Wow. An impressive string of rote tropes against the most successful governor in the country. That’s really something.
But I’ll just pick one: the disloyal jackal. I voted for trump, enthusiastically, twice. I have a sincerely held view he was a man for the moment, and his moment has passed. No one running who was helped by him is morally bound not to run again if they feel similarly.
In response to your other cheap attacks, I’ll say this about DeSantis’ character. He has scrupulously avoided responding to the unprovoked, absolutely gratuitous, and often juvenile attacks Trump has launched in recent months. Loyalty is a two-way street, you know. DeSantis isn’t even running yet, has not criticized Trump, yet he’s the bad guy for not running to a bully’s aid.
DeSantis, through his halfwit “influencers” of dubious loyalty, has engaged in a barely disguised campaign against President Trump and his voters for well over a year. To deny this is to deny the reality of the situation. Fortunately, Ron DeSantis, through his perfidy, has revealed his truth; he will never be President, thankfully.
Vivek lacks credibility. Plus he is not Christian.
Deal killer.
Given that Trump has not been arrested, there is nothing wrong with waiting to make a statement.
>> It damn well is DeSantis’s job to stand for the rule of law and against a political prosecution -— especially when the political prosecution could benefit him, personally.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ DAMN STRAIGHT ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
“Silence is violence”
“Words are violence”
For now it’s Trump. If DeSantis stays quiet and becomes the nominee, it will be him next they do it to.
We had this same situation here of FR on Trump verses Cruz, people NEED to open their damn eyes as to WHO is FULL ON backing DeSantis, the GOPe, The Lincoln Project, Koch Industries, Club for Growth ect.!!! YES DeSantis is a GREAT governor HOWEVER, Jeb was a GREAT governor, Bush was a GREAT governor, Christy was a GREAT governor and on and on, ALL are SWAMP creatures say what you will about DeSantis just realize that DC does NOT give a damn how he governs his state, HOWEVER once he takes their money THEY OWN HIM!! Once in DC he will be another Bush, BANK ON IT!!!
>> RDS is controlled by big donors who hate Trump. He’d be accused of biting the hand that’s feeding him if he said a word.
I’m not a “DeSantis hater” — he’s an excellent governor and part of the solution of turning this country back to righteousness.
That said, your comment resonates. DeSantis is triangulating at the moment.
I think things were as different from when you attended to when I taught (2001-2003, at a ritzy board/ day school in Monterrey and a day school in Oakland with higher academic standards), as they are now. Things were looked upon much differently in that time- and I am confident they are now. If Mr. DeSantis becomes the nominee (heaven forefend) it will definitely become an issue, rightly or not.
Yawn. At least you’re far from alone around here. Tell me: Do you guys wipe the foam off your lips from time to time, or do you just let it run down your chin naturally?
You really want to compare moral behavior between Trump and DeSantis? Neither man is a saint, but AFAIK, Ron hasn’t paid any hush money to a porn star.
Good luck with that, sport. Just you wishing it won’t happen doesn’t make it true. We know now that Trump pulled the Tuesday date for his arrest out of the hat, with nothing to back it up, and nothing from the DA’s office.
Turns out that the grand jury is still hearing from witnesses. There will be no arrest on Tuesday. This was irresponsible and undisciplined of Trump to post.
Has a PT Barnum ring to it.
DeSantis has been careful to avoid doing so himself, ergo no comment on President Trump’s persecution. Instead, he uses thinly veiled surrogates, then claims it isn’t him- I don’t buy it nor should any of you, but caveat emptor I suppose. With Ron DeSantis, you are getting performative (but not substantive) culture wars drive by various liberals slightly mugged by reality. If that is sufficient for you, bueno, but is weak sauce; coupled with Ron’s career politico vibes and status quo attitude, I think is an irrelevant distinction per the self serving perfidy of Mittens, McCain, Bush, et al. But, by all means, do you...I am sure things will get better with another go along get along candidate...
Agreed that DeSantis owes Trump nothing but he owes us. Pence hates Trump but commented on the weaponization of gov.
All of the RINOS are silent because they are fine with the weaponizing of gov. DeSantis (if he wants MAGA outcomes) should be commenting on these and other national subjects often.
Too many are foregivong DeSantis because he is a great governor who is cultured and proper. If he wants to be president he is going to have to speak boldly and often. And most important……openly attack our enemies with fervor.
Trump did/does that often and it exposed many things we did not know.
Examples of verbal wars:
McCain
Bush
Cruz
Fake news
Witch hunts
Many cringed until they realized he was right. We still have 200 RINOS that backed McCarthy without opposition. 20 stood up and fought. We have enough ‘proper’ hand wringers who only speak when it benefits them. That isn’t winning.
