Dollar Tree Can't Afford to Sell Eggs Anymore

Dollar Tree, which sells most products for $1.25 and a small selection of items for $3 or $5, will stop selling eggs at stores because the company can't make money offering them at flat prices.

SNIP

Egg costs jumped 38% for producers annually in February and 55% for shoppers, although eggs are beginning to get cheaper. The average price for a dozen Grade A large eggs was $4.21 in February, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Most retailers have raised egg prices on customers to adjust for higher costs, but Dollar Tree doesn't have as much flexibility to raise prices. "Our primary price point at Dollar Tree is $1.25. The cost of eggs is currently very high," said company spokesperson Randy Guiler. Dollar Tree, which has around 9,000 US stores, will bring back eggs when "costs are more in line with historical levels."

Dollar tree and .99 cent store have rationalized pricing on so many items, that it’s just more convenient to shop at Walmart.

That is good, nothing makes my teeth itch more than the thought of poor people being able to purchase anything other than junk food

Reminds me of the first part of the 1983 miniseries, “V,” where shortages kicked in where one of the characters, Elias, wad selling eggs on the black market. He said, “a dozen clucks for six bucks “

I keep hearing about how expensive eggs are.....my wife is still finding a dozen for somewhere around $3.50......I guess price varies by where you are.

Egg prices are back to “normal,” after you factor in the long-running double-digit inflation of food products.

There’s something so ironic about wealthy lefties shopping at a dollar store.

“Dollar tree and .99 cent store have rationalized pricing on so many items, that it’s just more convenient to shop at Walmart.”

Dollar Tree still has everything the same price. But now it is $1.25 per item. I was in there yesterday and bought a few three outlet power strips. That look the same as these 4 outlet ones from Walmart

And 4 pairs of thin synthetic socks. That I need for my sneakers that are a tiny bit tight. $1.25 for two pairs.

"Our primary price point at Dollar Tree is $1.25

Another company made the mistake of putting their price in their company name. If they wanted to change now, hotel "Motel 60" just does does not have the same panache.

Note to entrepreneurs: do NOT put your price in your company name.
