In the Torah, the penalty for eating or touching something unclean is that you’re not allowed to visit the temple or associate with people until the time passes where what was touched or consumed is no longer a risk to those around you.
It wasn’t permanent condemnation.

Then there was the day that I arrived at my boyfriend's house...with 5 lbs of shrimp that was on sale.
I was ecstatic...he not so much. Said it shouldn't be in the house.
Not a problem...I moved out and took my shrimp with me.

Well, my attention-whore radar went off. The Quran prohibits eating it but, if you do or if you have to, as they say “God is merciful” (meaning, Allah gets it — mistakes happen, move on). There’s nothing in the Quran about touching it and it’s considered a private decision. One Muslim did tell me that he always washed his hands after touching pork and that’s all the Quran required (seems like common sense to me).
