There are various ways to rate the best-selling rock albums of all time. In this case, we went directly to the source: The Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA). Specifically, tracked certified units sold as of February 2023. In terms of what constitutes a "rock" album, we went with consensus and inclusion of sub-genres of the "rock" category, such as hard rock/heavy metal, pop rock, soft rock, and folk rock.
With all that in mind, here are the 25 best

Really shouldn’t include compilations and “greatest hits” albums along regular releases.

Folk rock, yes. “Hazy Shade of Winter”, for example, definitely has a rock drum beat, and the beat is probably the single most defining feature of “rock” music.
I agree with you. A few years ago up here in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Hootie and the Blowfish were scheduled to give a free outdoor concert. It was cancelled because nobody wanted the free tickets to attend.
Hard to argue with Aja.

Yeah a lot of people forget (or never knew) that before Carole King scored any hits of her own she was working in Tin Pan Alley writing lots of hits for other pop and rock musicians.
Still, "The Boxer" is one of the greatest songs ever written.
The Bangles cover was better, IMHO.
The Cars first album is a “perfect” album. Every song just fits perfectly.
Yesterday when the talk involved Steve Gadd on Aja, I was reminded that he played the intro on 50 ways to leave your lover.

Even when Garfunkel blows his start on the concert in central park version.
