There are various ways to rate the best-selling rock albums of all time. In this case, we went directly to the source: The Recording Industry Association of America® (RIAA). Specifically, tracked certified units sold as of February 2023. In terms of what constitutes a "rock" album, we went with consensus and inclusion of sub-genres of the "rock" category, such as hard rock/heavy metal, pop rock, soft rock, and folk rock.
With all that in mind, here are the 25 best

Is it really a suprise?
Wonderful list. So very many memories.
So many to choose from. A couple of my favorites that come to mind is Miles of Aisles, Beach Boys in Concert, Made in Japan, the aforementioned Concert in Central park and honorable mention to Frampton of Course just because it was my era.
I agree that Greatest Hits albums shouldn’t count.
Also, almost nobody buys albums anymore so I wonder how or if they count downloads and streams.
And “Live Bullet”
Love it now, didn’t get it back then, same for At Fillmore East. Now they are classics.
I was a senior in high school. Was a great time for music. Still listen to it today.
If they’re gonna include greatest hits album I would think ELO would be on that list. So many great tunes.
I've never liked Greatest Hits albums. Mostly because I enjoy the lesser played tracks on albums and often get tired of the hits. Led Zeppelin IV is a great example (though not a greatest hits album, itself). I'm tired of Stairway to Heaven, Black Dog and Rock and Roll. But still enjoy Four Sticks and Battle for Evermore.
But I guess the numbers don't lie. People buy them like crazy. Even the Eagles. I hate the Eagles.
Don’t disagree it’s great music....just not what I would think of as rock - it’s more folk music ...not sure if the term ‘pop’ was around yet at the time but leans more towards that then rock in my mind.

Elvis was mostly before the LP. Most of his sales would have been 45's.

Uhh.. According to the library of congress:
“The Dark Side of the Moon” spent an astonishing 14 years on the “Billboard” album charts, and sold an estimated 45 million copies.
Which would put it first on that list.
I don’t think Led Zepplin had a greatest hit album/CD.
Some of the old bands are putting out new good stuff. I like the new Depeche Mode album.
‘Born in the U.S.A.,’ Bruce Springsteen (1984), 17 million***Springsteen sold 17mm albums and he still sucks ping list***
If you lived through those times they were on Rock radio when it was AM.
Can’t believe Weird Al is not on the list.
