A great list 70s song
02/28/2023 | Me

Streaming music as I work and this song popped up. Been many years since I've heard it last but loved it growing up. One of Paul's best. I love the line in the song "I never thought to ask her what the letter G stood for, but I know it wasn't good"!

Sally G.....enjoy.

We went to a Mannheim Steamroller Christmas concert and they played “Convoy”. Guess why.

I'm envious, why?

The guy that founded Steamroller wrote the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlkBUEFgW2Q&ab_channel=MortadoFilth

That song right there is 1 of many that I’ve seen on this thread that belong on the Playlist of Radio Hell. You know, what they play over the loud speakers in the Eternal Inferno.

But adding Steely Dan, supertramp and king crimson to an otherwise pop list would be in order. Oh, and Yes.

Supertramp is responsible for damaging one of my speakers. It was on a shelf and the bass made it vibrate enough to work its way off and to the floor :)

As I recall, after Donovan recorded ‘Atlantis’ (Way down below the ocean), he spent some time in a funny farm because they determined he was a little too happy for this world. It was probably due to drugs.

Zappa - Dupree’s Paradise (With Jean Luc-Ponty) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qr6mTloYJJs Maybe the single greatest group of musicians ever assembled on one stage

Why am I not surprised they played together, first time I've seen that.

Some thoughts:

1) I agree that "I've Never Been To Me" is loathsome in ways that are difficult to fully convey in words.
2) Everyone seems to have overlooked the iconic 1971 hit "Signs" by the Five Man Electrical Band.
3) On the other end of the spectrum, I don't see any mention of Gilbert O'Sullivan's wretched "Alone Again, Naturally."
4) If you liked Marmalade's "Reflections" you will want to see this.

Read the lyrics, many a Christian woman or conservative woman can relate to them.

It is the most powerful anti-feminist song I know of.

Uck…I had forgotten about that abomination. And “Claire” was pretty awful as well.

I think Billy Batts hated that one.

Every pep rally when I was in Jr. HS and in HS always started out with that song. 1972-1978

Yes, I consider myself reasonably articulate, but when I attempt to describe my feelings about that song, my mind begins to freeze up. I experience a reaction kind of like that of the NOMAD robot in the Star Trek episode The Changeling.

NOMAD was a robot designed to sterilize entire planets. When faced with a insoluble conundrum by clever Captain Kirk, NOMAD turned its destructive power on itself, exploding with a supernova-type blast.
