A Florida man accused of dumping two glasses of water on his older brother during an argument over key lime pie — admittedly not the most heinous Florida man offence — now faces charges that could potentially put him in jail for up to 30 years.
64-year-old Lee County resident David Sherman Powelson was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of first-degree felony aggravated battery on a person aged 65 years or older, according to court records accessed by Law and Crime.(snip)
Powelson, who faces up to three decades in prison and possibly thousands of dollars in fine if convicted, had eaten a pie that his brother — referred to in an affidavit as “the victim” — had been saving.
Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about “physical domestic dispute” around 8:30 pm [local time] after “the victim became upset and an argument ensued,” the probable cause affidavit stated. “While sitting in the chair, David [Powelson] emptied two large glasses of water on the victim. The victim feared [Powelson’s] aggressive behavior would lead to him being physically harmed and or killed.”

The brother was holding an electric appliance? Otherwise, the charge is ridiculous.
Times have changed, haven’t they?
Pecan pie I can understand, but key lime?
If I only had a brain...yes, Dorothy threw the water on the wicked witch to put out the fire on the scarecrow, yes.
Well, it WAS key lime pie.
However, that is a little much for just one slice of pie and two glasses of water.
Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and the charges will be severely reduced or dismissed. I’m sure the brother didn’t expect it to escalate to this point when he called the cops. However, it usually does so many times it is best to just separate the parties and wait until tempers cool down. Even if it was you that was wronged, in something this relatively minor it is best to just walk away to defuse the situation.
Dan White got much less than 30 years after killing two Democrat politicians.
Funny, you say that. I just informed some friends and family of that very thing not even 2 weeks ago. People were stunned that I knew this. They’re all native (and current) Floridians, and zero of them knew open the sunshine laws that have been part of Florida laws for quite some time now. Other states don’t do it, but they should!
Ah, perhaps a combination of UV and liquor?
Same argument in my house. I love it (Publix kind) but I’ve never had the real Keys version of Key Lime Pie, like some others in my family have had the privilege of tasting.
I remember his Twinkie Defense.
Saying the jolt of sugar from that snack was why he became violent enough to stalk and kill two politicians who he happened to dislike.
It became a grim joke on talk radio.
“What a world! What a world!”
I LOVE pecan pie, but I can tell you, for me personally, Key lime pie wins that contest nearly every time. Not around Fall, but pretty much every other season, Key lime pie is a winner.
I wonder if alcohol was a part of this situation. I’m guessing yes.
