Currently SE of Charlotte. FLightradar24 shows surveillance plans in the air. Shiptraffic website has a US destroyer right off the coast of NC right now.

They’re gonna shoot it down.

FWIS - one analysis I have seen says that the reason DoD will not take it out, is because we also have balloons over China doing the same/similar things

International treaties and rules governing “national airspace” in the high atmosphere are unclear/non-existent, so nations with the technical ability (ie. USA, Russia, China) have developed such things that are obviously not satellites, yet they are considered outside the realm of military/commercial aviation.

If we shoot at theirs, they can then be justified in shooting at ours.

Again FWIW

What “we” is necessary. If it’s over the Carolinas, there can be an informal contest between good ol’ boys to see who can score the winning shot. Everyone of his friends buys him drinks for a month. G-d bless the 2nd Amendment.

It’s worth a try. Maybe from a hot air balloon?

Biden administration tried to hide Chinese spy balloon from American public
By Jon Levine
February 4, 2023

President Biden and his administration knew for nearly a week that a Chinese spy balloon was hovering in U.S. airspace — but kept the incursion secret, fearing it would derail Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Republicans expressed “outrage” over the president’s refusal to act.

“Communist China’s surveillance balloon violates international law and threatens our homeland,” Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island) told The Post.

“It’s an outrage that the Biden Administration spotted this balloon days ago as it was flying over the Aleutian Islands and did nothing about it,” she said. “The president has not even made a comment about this unacceptable act of aggression by the CCP.”

The politics of the looming 2024 presidential election also played a role in Biden’s actions, sources told Bloomberg, with the fraught US-China relationship expected to be a central foreign policy issue.

It’s a weather balloon so I don’t really care. If it’s spying on stuff, that stuff has already been surveilled by Chinese spy satellites and Google Earth.....

It's not going to make any difference at this point....but a nice diversion from the real issues of this administration.

The range of a 180 gr 30-06 fired straight up is about 10K ft.

It seems we must have weapons that would evaporate this thing before it ever came close to the ground.

Who cares?

This is the graduating class at UCSD in 2019:

Their troops are already here, they already have taken over most of the institutions in California, do you think one silly balloon makes a difference?

They will all be employed by US "defense" companies, get security clearances (it would be raciss to deny them) and work hard to suck every bit of technology out of said companies for delivery to their relatives back home.

The balloon was probably designed by guys with US degrees.

Sometimes a contrarian perspective helps. At first this really ticked me off but now I think it’s a good thing the normies are seeing this and how the Administration is letting it happen. It’s helping to awaken the woke.

And unlike WWII, you won’t be able to put Chinese in internment camps.

And they will do what the US falsely accused Japanese Americans of doing, if we ever go to war with China, bank on it.

Our southern border is meaningless to Biden. Our airspace is meaningless to Biden, except if an American citizen accidentally flies over the White Hut. Our military is feckless, unprincipled and woke. When are we going to see a member of the Joint Chiefs or senior Pentagon official resign in protest and expose the incompetence, misplaced priorities and the communist threat from within our government.

I can get over the massive blunders that have occurred under Biden, or maybe the are not blunders. These include assisting in trafficking of fentanyl sourced by China, allowing China to spy on our military infrastructure, wasting billions on weapons without any controls in Ukraine and Afghanistan, and participating in the creation of COVID-19 with China. There is much more, but notice that the Biden Crime Family received their wealth from China and Ukraine.
