Megyn Kelly blasts first lady after Fox calls her Dr. Jill Biden: ‘Get a real MD’

Megyn Kelly blasted the first lady after she was introduced on Fox as “Dr. Jill Biden” during the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, calling her a “wannabe” for not having a “real” degree and for “insisting on this fake title.”

Biden was sitting next to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a luxury suite at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, where the first lady was rooting for her beloved Eagles during their decisive rout of the undermanned San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

When Fox cameras showed Biden and Goodell in the box, the television network’s graphics introduced her as “Dr. Jill Biden — First Lady of the United States.”

“Announcers for this Eagles-49ers game just spotted the First Lady in a box and of course call her ‘Dr. Jill Biden,'” Kelly tweeted. “Wonder if she realizes what a wannabe she looks like insisting on this fake title.”

Kelly added: “Get a real MD or just work on your self-esteem.”

In 2007, Jill Biden earned a doctorate of education from the University of Delaware. When her husband, President Biden, served as Barack Obama’s vice president, Jill Biden taught English full-time at Northern Virginia Community College.

Jill Biden’s insistence on using the honorific even though she’s not a physician triggered widespread debate about which PhD recipients should be called “doctor.”

In December 2020, the Wall Street Journal published a much-discussed opinion piece by Joseph Epstein, who urged the first lady to do away with the title, “which feels fraudulent, even comic.”

I wish people would stop harping on this- if she has a PhD then her title is (correctly) ‘Doctor’.

Doctorate level degrees are not exclusive to medical doctors.

ALL my teachers in college were PhD’s, and all were called ‘doctor’, including my path and science and business teachers.

Does Meghan Kelly not know this? It was petty to address it this way, but it is also stupid and petty if she didn’t know this.

She’s right on this. Before I retired I managed 35 engineers, most had MS degrees and 6 of them had PhDs. It was common practice that they were ONLY REFERRED TO AS “Doctor” when the discussion or setting was IN DIRECT RELEVANCE TO THEIR DOCTORATE AREA OF EXPERTISE.

In this woman’s case, she got that ‘Doctorate’ as a gimme from her VP husband’s state, I’ve seen her dissertation at one time and, frankly, it was nonsense, IMO. In case you’re wondering, it was entitled “Student Retention at the Community College Meeting Student Needs.”

No, they are LITERALLY “Doctors of Philosophy. Not Medical Doctors which is what the WH, MSM and all the other leftist pukes out there want to portray her as.

My dad was Professor Emeritus at a university. He had a doctorate, not an MD, but he wasn't pretentious about it. Never referred to himself as 'doctor'.

He got it in 1970 or '71, back when one had to actually go places and do actual research, not Google and cut-and-paste.

Except that she doesn’t have a PhD. All my profs with PhD’s were also called “doctor” - in the classroom, not when they went about the rest their daily lives.

And the flip side of that is that you also learn a lot about changing diapers and cleaning out their underwear.

But she is entitled to use the honorific.

And I would counter that she'd only be entitled to use it in the case where the discussion or interaction was about the area of expertise in which she obtained the PhD.

To allow/encourage the use of "Dr." in every reference to her by MSM, Democrats, the Administration, et al is an insult to real medical doctors, IMO

Jill’s time and effort spent on getting her PhD from University of Delaware probably involved very little, IMO. Rubber stamp.

I had a professor who had his doctorate. He said, “The only people who need to call me doctor sign my paycheck. You may all call me Mr.”

She taught 12th grade English at my public high school when I was in 12th grade.

There is nothing impressive about her mind. She was a Senator’s wife, and didn’t work for shit.

Interesting. I thought Megyn was smarter than that. She obviously never took Latin in high school or college.

The title comes from the Latin word doctore to teach. The degree, Ph.D. is from the 1600’s or earlier and is a doctorate of philosophy, an academic degree.Anyone with a Ph.D. is a doctor.

The M.D. is a more recent professional degree for physicians from the early 19th century. Before that those who treated sick people were barbers and blood letters and had minimal formal training. Physicians began to call themselves medical doctors because it sounded more impressive. At many medical schools the professors there have both the professional degree and the academic degree.

Meg is a lawyer and has a J.D. That’s another nouveau professional degree. Lawyers thought the J.D., Juris Doctor was a fancier degree than an LLB, Legum Baccalaureus, Bachelor of Laws.
