A Reddit user shares that he turned his daughter’s bedroom into a home office after she moved out and decided to live with her boyfriend. However, her boyfriend accepted a job abroad, and she didn’t want to go with him. So, she announced she’ll be moving back in with her parents.
The parents were okay with her moving back in. But, the daughter wasn’t happy living in the spare guest bedroom and wanted her original bedroom back.
What Makes This Room Special?
The original poster (OP) started working for a different company, and they allowed working from home. And, since his daughter was no longer using her room, it was a perfect opportunity for him to turn it into a home office.
He spends half of his job speaking to clients online. So, he needed a quiet place in the house. His daughter’s bedroom is ideal because it is on another floor and has a lot of privacy.
However, since moving back home, the OP’s daughter has been nagging him to give back her room. She, too, wanted the privacy that the space provided.
And, after refusing to turn his home office back to her room, the OP says his daughter is treating him like the enemy.

“Well done sir. Well done.”
Thank you. I appreciate that.
25 year old “kid”?
Nice way to teach responsibility.
I talked to a woman who referred to her arrested 36 year old son as a “kid”. I reminded her that 36 years old is middle age, since the average man lives to about 72.
“Nice way to teach responsibility.”
Not sure if this is sarcastic, targeted at me or you are making a general statement that a 25 year old isn’t a kid.
does it without hesitation.
You should be proud of the man you two parents raised.
Well she’s an adult now. She can get her own apartment or live under dad’s rules.
acting like an adult.
She already chose poorly.
Turned 18, Farmer’s daughter moved out, moved to Miami with her boyfriend. Within the year the unmarried couple was having trouble making it. Daughter says “ Daddy, i want to come home”. Farmer said, “Babygirl, you are home. You live in Miami. You can visit , but you can’t live here.”
Not "her" bedroom. Dad and Mom own it. They were just housing the kid in that room until she moved on.
Just a general statement that points out the idiocy of considering a 25 year old as a “child”!
I used that very same term...”guest”...with my kid when finished college, decided to take a year off from school and spend it at home. Didn’t go over with her very well. I stood my ground.
Grow a pair Dad, and point her toward the door option.
Her net worth is a million dollars. It sure pays to spew nonsense.

The elephant in the room is........ what is the daughter doing for sex?
She prostituted herself for a dwelling. That situation no longer exists.
She needs to be reminded her stay is temporary. No need to make it like home.
I told my children if you ever have to move back. I am not doing anything or paying for anything.
Guess what none have moved back.
“Some additional data would be nice such as the daughter’s age, only child, how long she was gone, and if they had a rules meeting before she moved back in”
totally ...
and speaking of “rules”: after i graduated from undergrad school and briefly lived at my parents’ home again before i went off to grad school, i paid a token room and board fee and was very happy to do that ... to some degree, it gave me the status of a boarder, and i could live there like a boarder, free to come and go, but respectful of the rights and needs of everyone else who lived there ...
Is He Wrong For airing his family’s dirty laundry in public?
Yes.
“OMG I remember I couldn’t wait to turn 18 I had my bags packed 2 weeks ahead of time, had a deposit on my apartment I was SO EXCITED!! We were able to work at 16 back in the day so when I got a job at 16 I paid my mom and dad $50.00 dollars a month for groceries ect. Most of my friends who were working had the same going on with their parents!! It was definitely a different time parents teaching* kid’s responsibility before they moved out on their own!! Myself and ALL of my friends were out the door at 18 we could not wait, no more curfews ect.”
same here and SO FRIGGING TRUE!
25 is the new 16.
