America’s post-Floyd ‘racial reckoning’ has found the spectre of white supremacy lurking in many unlikely places. In recent years, everything from mathematics to Abraham Lincoln, the president who abolished slavery, has been declared ‘problematic’ by activists.
That crusade has now reached a joyless new low. On Sunday, the Splash Mountain log flume, a much-loved attraction at Walt Disney World in Florida, welcomed riders for the final time. On the ride, guests are serenaded by animal animatronics, before plunging down a 50-feet drop and splashing into water. The ride’s theme and soundtrack draw on elements from Disney’s 1946 film, Song of the South. For activists, this is where the problem lies.
According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, Song of the South – and anything associated with it, like the Splash Mountain ride – is ‘just not appropriate in today’s world’. Set at some point during the Reconstruction Era after the US Civil War, Song of the South follows seven-year-old Johnny as he visits his grandmother’s plantation in Georgia. While there, Johnny befriends old Uncle Remus, a plantation worker. He tells Johnny tales about the adventures of his cartoon animal friends. From these stories, Johnny learns how to cope with his new life on the plantation. The film has long been criticised for dealing in racial stereotypes and, as a result, has never been released on home video in the US, or on Disney+.

What are the diversity/quota stats for the anonymous costumed mascots?
Since they are anonymous in their character suits, maybe they should wear racial badges on their arms so people can gauge how woke Disney is.
Zippety doo-dah.

So will Tinkerbell come out as a tranny?
After all, Mary Martin did play Peter Pan...
Everything these a**holes touch turns to s**t...
So, when is snow white going to become snow black, and when is Cinderella going to become Keisharella? Where is the black dwarf?
Everything is racist, if one wants to examine everything with a racist bent.
It is simply amazing how stupid and thoughtless people have become. It appears limitless including the elites at the WEF and unfortunately our own government.
Splash Mountain shutdown because it’s racist.
= = =
The riders get wet, kind of like bathing.
Is that racist?
Well, there’s always the old Warner Brothers cartoon “Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs”. That was still on YouTube a few years ago, probably gone now.
And with all of the news reports about this, I have not seen any reporting on how popular the ride was in the first place. Maybe it was just time to retire the ride and replace it with some theme from this century.
Uncle Remus gone? Who is next? Mary Poppins?
Good catch.
Song of the South was a good movie
The ride was one of the most popular at Disney World. I do agree with the comment that it may be time to retire the ride or rebrand, but Disney is using it to make a statement.
All of history can and will be portrayed as racist.
This is the point.
The only way for the stagnancy of Communism to get broad acceptance is to convince people that progress never happened, or if it did, it was immoral.
Too much like swimming?
Iger is just another of the legions of termites gnawing away at the woodwork of civilization.
Activists=People who have nothing to do and are bored with their mundane lives...They crave to find something, anything, to complain about, protest about, really anything to draw attention to their pathetic little lives...
Took my kid there last fall. She thought it was Peter Rabbit. I thought Song of the South was written be Uncle Remus.
We had no idea the ride was racist but I am glad we got to ride it before it was quashed. We even have a picture of us going down the racist water slide at the end.

Theoretically the need for reparations should go away.
But in California, for example, a state commission developing plans for reparations for slavery.
Yes we know California was never a slave state but the liberals who run California are doing this anyway.
The Liberals Who Run San Francisco are coming up with their own plan for reparations in that City.
A few other places around the country are developing plans for reparations for slavery.
The question not being asked is why did Disney specify a reason for shutting down the ride? Rides at Disney have come and gone with little notice so Splash Mountain could have been shut down with a generic announcement, to make room for a newer ride.
Yet they had to announce they shut it down because it was “racist”.
Yet again, why?
