In many cases, they’re mentally ill and it’s unconscionable that we not only ignore their illness, but governments actively encourage it. I’ve known 3 trans people, all men who became women, and all 3 said things to me that suggested they felt inadequate as men and believed that women had an easier time in society. I have a friend who knows a female now transitioning to male. My friend told me this person was raped when she was a female. My very limited contact suggests that the desire to transition to the other gender has everything to do with an inability to cope and an intense belief that the other gender has more power. I’m not presenting this as a fact, just a casual observation.

Absolutely! And altho I do believe some who are gay were born with genetic tendencies towards it, I believe a whole lot more choose that path for the same reasons you just described so well.
They didn't. They are just delusional. A quick blood test tells the truth.
They may not be "men"...but they are biologically males, surgery notwithstanding.
