How do we know that’s not just a laptop? When I’ve seen pictures of the “football” in the past, it’s been a more rigid shape and had a hard handle and brass clips to close it. I SOOO want that to be the nuclear football because of all that would imply, but that bag looks like a floppy laptop case. I concede that the brass closures could be on the inside next to his leg, but the handle looks wrong.

But I have not given a lot of thought to other destructive weapons. I’m not ruling that out as a good idea. ... and maybe not 100% of all weapons.
FTR, my position on 2A is that any weapon/device that the goobermint uses against its own citizens should be legal for those citizens to own/carry/use. So if the police use automatic weapons, drones, spy devices, body armor, etc., then we ought to be able to buy and use them, too. Any other reading of 2A makes us helpless against our own government. I.e., slaves/serfs.

Good question. My laptop bag is fat because the adaptor/charger is chunky, and the cord is long, so it takes up a lot of space when it’s looped. I have no other explanation. The bag just looks wrong, but technology changes, so maybe the football is now safe in a canvass bag with a polyester web strap, rather than the previous hard leather case.
I also don’t know what’s inside the football case. Is it a red phone with a direct line to the Pentagon and Kremlin? Is it a numeric panel that you type in numbers to launch the nukes? Both? I don’t much like the idea of the SS agent or something else falling on top of the soft sided bag and breaking the panel or phone. I sometimes overthink though.
