There are much cheaper, and much more productive, alternatives.
Books for education, apprenticeships for vocations, clubs and churches for a social life.
A Black guy employed as a chemist kept on being teased by his family for “acting White”.
I asked him how many people graduated with a chemistry degree when he did. He said four others.
I asked him where they were from. He said Asia.
I said “You’re not acting White, you’re acting Asian.”
The next time his family teased him about acting White he told them he was acting Asian. That was the last time they teased him.
