Jeff Beck, among the most innovative and certainly the most unpredictable of β60s guitar heroes, has died. He was 78.
A fleet, imaginative soloist, Beck brought formidable instrumental firepower to British band the Yardbirds, which he joined in 1965 as a replacement for Eric Clapton. Entirely at home with the groupβs blues roots, he burnished their pop hits with an adventurous and virtually unprecedented use of feedback, sustain and fuzz.

can you just catch bacterial meningitis out of the blue?
Don't you need to be exposed?
I don't know... sounds like a scary thing to "suddenly" catch. Anyone know?
Pinging a few FReeper medical professionals...
RIP Jeff Beck.
Not to take anything away from Beck, but this kid, now a man, is also amazing:
I had really never heard of him, because I wasn't all that into the blues, even though I love a good blues song for sure. I wish he had played with Beck. The two together would have been awesome to see. π
Saw him in concert with Jan Hammer around 1976, jazz fusion setlist, blow by blow and a lot of jamming!
Yes! Hubby and I are big Joe Bonamassa fans. And BB King fans as well...
Yeah, everyone loves BB & his Lucille. π
Does he ever sing a song?
Look up “Hi-Ho Silver lining”
It is written...
Charlie Christian begat Wes Montgomery who begat George Benson.
And then there’s Jeff Beck
So it is written, so it is said.
Well Keith outlives this dude too.
Well, he did sing a stanza or 2, but thankfully not the whole song. π
Jeff Beck ββ Hi Ho Silver Lining (1967) Jeff Beck - guitars, vocals
This one is him singing it all the way through, and it's not bad vocals either. π
So, perhaps in his later life he no longer really had a voice at all, so he left the singing to others? π
Thanks for the heads up. π
Rest in peace
On the back of the album jacket for Truth was a tip: βTo be played at full volume.β
Yes, and worth installing Blu-ray audio!
Really got into his hottie bassist, Tal Wilkenfeld. Guy had it all.
Wes had a thumb longer than most people’s index finger.
Yes. Meningococcal meningitis is quite contagious. Usually in college on close quarter setting. Itβs an ugly and quick disease
