I love chicken fried steak, with mashed potatoes and with green beans or corn and a good gravy.

Are there any good chicken fried steaks in other states.

I know it is a regional specialty.

I can’t remember which, but either Sam’s Club or BJs had a large freezer bag of chicken fried steak WITH a separate pouch of white gravy. It really wasn’t bad.

I tend to eat mine with a squeeze of lemon.

Not really sure of where I picked up the habit but there it is.

The gravy is for the mashed potatoes and corn. Mixed together.

Green beans on the side.

Here in Ohio I’ve had IHOPs Chicken Fried Steak with over easy eggs and hash browns a number of times and it was decent enough!

The best, I ever had was a black-owned restaurant on the east side of Nacogdoches, TX. It was the best I’ve ever eaten before snd after that restaurant. Went back to visit and heard it had closed. Sad.

German immigrants... back in the 1800s invented it as a copy of their schnitzel using the Texas ingredients they had at hand. Truly a Texas thing.

My grandmother from Alabama would make chicken fried steak that would blow all these restaurants off the map. She served it with fried okra, creamed corn, cast iron skillet corn bread, and black eyed beans. Washed down with large glasses of sun-brewed sweet iced tea.

If we still had room in our stomachs, we'd get some peach cobbler for dessert.

I guess the people who at Lulu’s must have disliked the other food for Lulu’s to go out of business.

Dirty’s Ice House in Houston had giant, delicious chicken-fried steaks and white gravy. Mashed potatoes with skins. I think they closed in the 90s.

Two people could split one of their CFSs and still feel like you were about to bust open when you left the restaurant.

Glad to see # 10 on the list.

Gristmill River Restaurant (Gruene)

Not only is the food good but the old barn is such a unique place to eat. We loved it.
