In L.A., Pink’s on La Brea was #1 back in the day when they were cooked in goose grease, but they’ve been average at best ever since.
Hard to beat Costco dogs for both quality and price.

I’ve never tried them, but I just pulled up some pictures and now I think I might have to pay them a visit, you know, in the interest of “science.” Looks great.
Yes! Even its imitator Papaya Dog in the West Village deserves a place on the list.

We had lunch at Bill Murray’s restaurant not far from Ohare Airport last year, I had 2 of their version Chicago dogs. Yum!
The original James Coney Island shop in downtown Houston when the chili dogs and a Hires rootbeer were 20 cents apiece.
$1.00 was a great meal.

Hot dogs and American cheese are two of my pet peeves. The world makes ten thousand types of sausages and cheeses, but somehow we Americans get stuck with the blandest, most soulless versions of each. Even the "best" hot dogs don't compare to a nice bratwurst.
