'The Rules of Attraction' (2002)
Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ classic 1980s novel of the same name, this dark satire follows an extremely pretentious group of college kids at a liberal arts school. The cast includes Jessica Biel, James Van Der Beek, Ian Somerhalder, and Kate Bosworth.
How about, ‘The Bad Seed?’ That was amazingly scary and controversial for the times. I remember my Mom having a hardback copy of that book back in the day.
They had to add a trailer to the end of the movie when it played in theaters of the Mom ‘spanking’ the young daughter for her ‘misdeeds.’
And then both actresses just laughed and laughed...
Also VERY creepy!
“Raising Arizona”, one of my all time fav comedies. IIRC, one of the first films from the Coen brothers.
“Used Cars” another underrated classic comedy - from Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis - the creator/writer of the “Back to the Future” films.
“IIRC, one of the first films from the Coen brothers.”
“Blood Simple’ was their first film. If should be on this list, too!
Murder mystery. Such good casting; you’ll recoglize just about everyone. Scary, creepy, not any more violent than any of their other films. (’Fargo,’ etc.)
Very ‘Film Noir.’ You’ll love it.
A great movie, if you like “revenge” films where the protagonist gets even with those who think they’ve finished you off.
“Ricochet” with Denzel Washington is another one of the same genre.
Exactly.
Great movies right off the top of my head.
The African Queen
The Pianist
Where Eagles Dare
Schindler’s List
The Great Escape
True Romance
I say Fracture with Anthony Hopkins.
October Sky was filmed a few miles from here in east TN. Beautiful area, and a great movie!!
“Regarding Henry” - Harrison Ford and Annette Benning.
Thanks for listing them! I was writing down ones of interest and as usual realizing that I can't read my own handwriting.
So I just searched for a list (that thing you do) - Yeah I know about Hanks but he's a good actor.
Zee - thanks for the post and for tomkat?
A movie named "Jennifer's Body" with Megan Fox in it? Oh yeah, skip that one.
Liam Neeson in anything? That's a man's man. Maybe that's your problem.
Look up "pretentious" in your dictionary if you have one - if you don't there's one online.
Wife's out of town, chores are done and a good movie list to consider. Thanks PIF & Zee! ;-)
Thanks for the tip, and to all the others who recommended it! Just finished watching it.
Best underrated movie I’ve ever seen!
I have always had a soft spot for Robert Duvall (Boo Radley), and Michael Caine was great too. Same for Haley Joel Osment.
Many thanks!
***Hub : Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love... true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.***
Hub has good advice for the kid, and for all of us.
One of my faves, on top of being one of my favorite Southern foods. So glad my Mama taught me how to cook them, though there’s not a ton of skill involved. I love making them in bacon grease with butter. So good!
Most underrated movies. Isn't that the topic of the thread?
That Thing You Do! is a fun movie and a nice little period piece. Catchy title song, too.
Yes,underrated…Breaker Morant Is hardlly underrated, it won many awards.
.
I have seen a lot of movies that were never big hit; but, that I have enjoyed. Not every movie has to be a great work of art. Sometimes, you just want to be entertained.
I love the movie While You Were Sleeping. Is it a great work of art. No; but it is entertaining. Or, at least I think so.
I even have a "guilty pleasure". A horrible movie that I watch whenever it is being run on my one of my cable channels: Event Horizon
The worst movie with the best cast ever.
