“After several days of savage fighting, the Zulus withdraw, and Michael Caine, the senior officer, states that he does not feel great pride, but that he feels ashamed.”
Well, the Michael Caine role (Lt. Bromhead) was the junior officer. The Stanley Baker role (Lt. Chard) was the senior officer.
“That line was an incongruous, pitiful, politically correct sop tossed to the opponents of Colonialism.”
Not really.
“No human being who has fought for his own life, and for the lives of his comrades in arms, has ever felt ashamed about surviving a terrible battle.”
Read some biographies. You’d be surprised.

It’s basically a remake of “Double Indemnity.”

I haven’t seen the movie in decades but the final battle scene is beautifully filmed. I don’t know how accurate the film account is. If it is accurate the amount of military discipline and the courage of individual soldiers required for this victory is monumental. Kudos to the director and film editor.

I watched, again, ZULU just a few nights ago. Also had to watch ZULU DAWN. Great scene when they find what they were looking for.
“My God! I Think we’ve found them!”
And who can forget the soldiers fighting.
“The bullets run out! The bloody spears don’t!”

“Strange Brew with Bob and Doug, the Makenzie brothers!”
Take off, ya Hoser! ;)
I’ll add, ‘Canadian Bacon’ to the list. Very funny movie about a ‘Wag The Dog’ war with Canada. Fun cast & crew.

“We Need to Talk About Kevin”
The book had me enthralled. I’m not sure I could take the movie. ‘The movie in my head’ was bad enough!

The wife beater the gals made into BBQ at the restaurant? THAT ‘decent’ guy?

‘Justified’ stole that for one of their episodes along the way...

The movie was disturbing and terrifying. Most of the violence happens off-screen which somehow makes it more horrible.
Didn’t know it was based on a book. Now I want to read it.

I loved all of your picks. :) Beau had never seen ‘Signs.’ I rented it last Halloween. I love the ‘redemption’ aspect of it, best of all.
I love all of M. Knight Samalama-Ding-Dong’s movies. ALL of them. :)

How about, ‘Skinny and Fatty?’ Japanese film I also remember watching as a kid.
What can I say? My mother wanted me to be ‘worldly’ and ‘well read.’
I tried, Mom! I tried, LOL!

Um. HELLO?
‘Quigley Down Under.’ Tom Selleck. Yum!
I know it was an American film ABOUT an American cowboy in Australia. It was my Step-Mom’s favorite movie. We must’ve watched it six times, together.
Pass the Popcorn! ;)

Set aside 24-48 hours of your life, depending upon how fast you read. ;)
