Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) has threatened to resign if the Republican party will negotiate with Democrats in voting to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker.
Matt Gaetz announced his intentions to resign from Congress in an interview on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle” Thursday night if he and other GOP patriots continued to refuse to back Kevin McCarthy’s speakership campaign.
Rep. Gaetz was asked by Laura Ingraham if he was okay with Republicans giving Democrats co-control of the committees, Gaetz firmly responded, “No!”

Gaetz told Laura that he “wouldn’t be betting on my vote for Kevin McCarthy under almost any circumstance.”
“Kevin McCarthy is the masthead of the Lobby Corps. And I resent the extent to which Kevin McCarthy utilizes the lobbyists and the special interests to be able to dictate how political decisions are made, how policy decisions are made, and how leadership decisions are made.”
“Kevin McCarthy has been in the leadership for 14 years, and he has sold shares of himself to special interests, to political action committees. And so that’s why I don’t think he is an appropriate choice,” he continued.

Gaetz has been a grandstanding, erratic loose cannon through these proceedings. He's probably threatening to resign because his own attempts to kanoodle with the Democrats haven't been fruitful.

Actually they can stop this fight they cannot win and vote Aye on McCarthy so there is no reason to bringing in n.v the Dems. All the headlines here and at GP cite the solidarity of the ‘20’. No one references the solidarity of the ‘202’.
Gaetz is acting like a child.
He doesn’t have to do it. The Dems can just vote for him saying they want to get moving on the agenda. It would be horrible optics for the Republicans.

What a farce. It’s Matt Gaetz himself who is giving the Democrats “Co-Control” of the chamber. He’s already wasted a week with ZERO oversight of the Biden crime family, of the open border, of the fetanyl crises or of big tech censorship. He and the rest of the head bangers and dead enders are effectively giving the Dems everything they want.
Nor should we believe that his motives are as pure as the driven snow. He REFUSES to confirm or deny if he’s demanding a committee assignment.
His vote for Trump as Speaker was simply ridiculous; Trump himself has endorsed McCarthy. Should we throw Trump under the bus too?
He should not resign.
That’s just what the rinos would like him to do.
Thank goodness OK 1st. District Congressman won’t vote for mccarthy.
The other5 are a disappointment.
This makes no sense at all when they haven’t presented anyone else who wants the position or that they would get behind.....unless it’s dealing for positions on committees they want control of.
