Anyone else feel this is a big mistake backing a loser like McCarthy?
It has been obvious to any of us on FR for weeks that he doesn't have the votes to be speaker and all this would happen yet Trump has backed him with gusto.
He cannot possibly be speaker after all this and still has no where near the votes anyway.
I feel again Trump has made an error in who is supporting or promoting....
“Pres Trump wanted to support who he
thought would likely be the winner.”
A while ago someone posted that he does that a lot. Figure out who will win, and then give his endorsement. Maybe...
If you see Trump as playing the role of agent of chaos, his odd, seemingly inexplicable moves make some sense.
I was no fan of Oz, but he was the best of the contenders in that GOP Senate primary. He did better than any of the others would have done. He was the perfect candidate for a state where the typical swing voter is a suburban Karen dingbat who wears a mask 24 hours a day and has a teenage son who thinks he’s a girl.
“I think the vote is based on members present.”
That’s what was reported yesterday. They can come up with ways to screw us bigly.
(Since there is no Speaker, who is moderating the sessions?)
Agreed, McCarthy is a loser. Bob Good is the man!
And you really think John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be his running mate? LOL.
If McCarthy had won on the 1st vote, this thread would be roasting every single “conservative” representative.:
-”Nothing ever changes”
-”Same old, same old”
-”Bunch of wimpy losers”
-”Why do we even bother to vote”
-”The GOP is dead”
No matter what happens, I’m just glad to see a few conservatives fighting for a change. This hasn’t happened in the house for 100 years.
Does anyone else remember the string of post office worker shootings in the last decade or so of the 1900's?
There were so many that it became a joke, when someone went crazy they called it "going postal"
They had a similar "it's his turn" mentality for promotions. He who had been there the longest got the next promotion. No matter how stupid or unqualified they were.
What happened was that so many incompetent, sadistic, mentally unfit long term employees got into management that it got to be a nightmare place to work.
So employees started coming in and shooting up the place. I had a high school friend who worked there and for two years I tried to talk him out of "going postal" but he had it in his mind that he had it all figured out and he would never get caught. It was only after I reminded him that every single person in jail thought they would never get caught too, and if he missed some detail and went to jail some big Bubba was going to be b**tf***ing him every night for the next 20 years to life.
But I digress...
MERIT based promotion is REQUIRED to avoid similarly ending up with incompetent RINO's in charge. "It's his turn" got us Bob Dole running for president, instead of someone good.
“Trump is not the man who ran in 2016.”
True. But would you be? Could anyone be? He’s had eight years of 24/7 persecution and betrayal. I might be able to handle a week of what he’s endured, but not eight years.
In one way he is the same in that his choices for people is still grim. And his ego seems intact.
Still, who can be better — that we know of know — to get the country back on track?
Because Trump is a terrible judge of character. There’s no evidence to the contrary.
“Biden is mentally disabled.
Blow job is incompetent.
The next in line is the speaker of the house.”
That IS chilling. President Hakeem Jeffries? President Elizabeth Cheney? (It’s been reported there are some GOP-RAT shenanigans behind closed doors re Cheney)
I suppose McCarthy would be better than either of them. But Frank Luntz as FLOTUS? Eewwww.
So Trump is a front-runner, fair-weather fan. Sounds like a freaking idiot to me.
Yep, and if he wins he’ll be marked as weak for the concessions and dealing it took to get there
I think if McCarthy withdrew and out his support behind Jordan he might be able to pull it off but we know his career is far more important than what happens to our country
I’m fairly well convinced we need our own Pinochet for about 6-10 years to clean this mess up
This should not be a surprise to anyone who knows how businessmen work. There’s no upside to supporting a MAGA patriot who gets 8% of the vote in an election.
Maybe he thinks it would be a shame/sin to take the House and leave the Speakership in the dems’ hands - like the Repubs are so close to doing.
I can barely believe this position
“Trump is getting some bad political advice in my opinion and not for the first time”
He doesn’t have a mind of his own?
Trump cannot win in `24 without the GOPe Deep State wing. Sucking up plain as day.
> Why is Trump backing a loser like McCarthy?
His policy instincts are good but he has no ability whatsoever to identify good people. None. He should probably stay out of the endorsement game and let someone else do the hiring if he’s elected again.
