I think the 15 will have MUCH better zoom, the improved stabilization from the 14, as well as the improvements in chips (and the new bigger batteries?).
I may be looking at the 15.
If they have a full-featured mini+, I’ll buy one. Almost for sure.
FREE is always good....
It’s still tracking you. You can’t really turn any of that stuff off. You can’t even really turn the phone off unless you remove the battery.
I have an Iphone XS which is the 2018 model. I was considering upgrading this year because I dropped it and cracked the screen as well as the back. When the 14 came out I just didn’t see anything it does better than my old one. I don’t care about better cameras or anything like that, I care about reception and battery life. My old phone was still working fine so I opted to spend the $200 to replace the screen instead, now it’s pretty much like new. The back is still cracked but it’s covered by the case so you can’t tell. I usually only get a couple of years out of a phone before something breaks so if I can get another year out of this one (5 years total) that’ll be a record for me. My XS is the same size as the 14 and I don’t want one any bigger, it’s on the verge of being too big already.
When I heard this I first thought of Judge Dredd where a mega city is designed that a person has all they need to survive within a couple of blocks of their home.
The plan is 15-Minute prison cities, where your cell phone is your ankle bracelet and submission is proof of your criminality.

Don’t they already do that? I
Like Singapore?
Apple iWatch is an independent phone.

A non tracking phone. Been watching its development
Everybody whines. Will they buy?
I have the iPhone 12 mini I had to actually buy when my 6 crapped out. I always had hand me downs from an Apple fanboy before that. I hate the button on/off functions but otherwise it’s a good product.
The improvement over the 5 model isn’t that much. Upgrading before the older model wears out has little benefit. I suspect most people feel the same with the prices at near $1,000. If that is true, the demand for new phones will drop as will the prices.
I have a XS which I dropped a few years ago. It has hairline crack in the screen. About a year ago the charging port started acting up so I had to fiddle with the connector to get it to take a charge. It got worse, so I bought a 13 Pro last spring. I was going to toss the XS, but then thought I would try resurrecting it with a $10 5W wireless charger. I've been using the XS around the house and listen to podcasts while on my morning walk.
I must be one of the few people left on earth that uses my phone to call people, text people, check an occasional email, Google Map somewhere, and look something up on the web while I’m waiting for my wife to get the hell out of Sephora.
All this processing power is nuts on a phone, and it just jacks everything up. If I want processing, I’ll pull out my iPad Pro or Macbook Pro...
If your phone makes a call via a cellular network it will have to give up its location. There’s no way around that. So from that perspective, a cell phone will always leave breadcrumbs.
I have an iPhone 7 and an SE first gen and my sister and her husband stopped at iPhone 11 ,LOL
My wife and I have Samsung S20 phones. Normally we keep our phone for 3 years and then trade them in for new phones. However the trade-in value has gotten so low that we plan to keep them for 5 years before getting new phones. After almost 3 years the batteries are still holding up fine.
I had to get a new phone last year, it is probably the worst camera I have had since the iPhone 3. My son told ime it was well known that the camera sucked on the "basic" phone ($1000 or whatever it was). If you wanted a good camera you can to get the "pro" version or whatever the better version is.
I went from an 8 to a 13 Mini. They’ve dropped the Mini so my next phone will be an android. But that is some years in the future.
Unless I find a small phone that is 90% phone. I had a flip phone I liked but it had a bad system for contacts. For travel cross country, I like a smart phone. For most of what I do, a PHONE phone would be nice.
to receive calls breadcrumbs
to send calls turn on and leave a cupcake?
Purism was an interesting project. As was the PinePhone. Both were great linux projects, but neither are ready for prime time and daily driver use.
I have both and moved on to a Pixel with graphene OS. It is an Android Open Source Project that runs android with no google. It can run the play store and google surveillance app in a sandbox that won’t allow the apps to system level resources. Best I Can do for now.
I really want PinePhone and Purism to succeed, they are just not there yet
