The Snowman is a children's picture book without words by English author Raymond Briggs, first published in 1978 by Hamish Hamilton in the U.K., and published by Random House in the U.S. that November.
The book was adapted into a 26-minute animated film in 1982 which debuted on British television that 26 December
"Walking in the Air" is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film of Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's book The Snowman.
The song forms the centrepiece of The Snowman, which has become a seasonal perennial on British television

I recorded this off PBS onto my beta tape which I played for years. I eventually bought the DVD which does not have the original introduction. It’s a Christmas classic in our family.
Good movie that I discovered in the 2000s after having kids.

Bit of a harsh reality story for children. Not a big fan, especially at Christmas.
When you’re hot, you’re hot.
I remember changing the lyrics of “Walking in the Air” for my kids, bastardizing the second line to sing, “We’re in our underwear.” Also made clear that Frosty has “a corn cob pipe, and a butt, and nose.” I guess Weird Al mode strikes on occasion.
I thought so too. But maybe Reality 101 is good for the soul. Life goes on. No sunshine being blown up my kids’derrieres. Merry Christmas!
