WETUMPKA, Ala. (AP) — Two women are scheduled to stand trial in an Alabama city court where they’re accused of committing misdemeanors in their efforts to feed and trap stray cats.
Mary Alston, 60, and Beverly Roberts, 84, were arrested and taken to jail by police in Wetumpka over the summer. The police chief said the women had previously been warned not to feed stray animals.
A trial was set for Tuesday morning in Wetumpka Municipal Court. Both women, who were arrested on public property, face misdemeanor counts of criminal trespassing, the Montgomery Advertiser reported. Roberts was also charged with disorderly conduct, while Alston faced a charge of interfering with government operations.
Terry Luck, an attorney for one of the women, said they were performing a public service by trapping stray cats and having them neutered and spayed.

Er, I know people guilty of this. Not me, of course...just people.
Government MUST control everything comrade.
Don’t dare give a sandwich to a homeless veteran either.
I feed 3 freaks, just enough to keep them around. I’m the only one who has no mice or roof rats.
I’ve known of people who did this same thing with pigeons. Wonder if there are many serial feeders of Iguanas?
Florida has them up to the gills.
Studies have shown that approximately 72% of homeless veterans are Second Lieutenants trying to complete their land navigation course. As commissioned officers, they should be paying for their own meals.
Your article is not up to date ...
I guess since the crime rate in Alabama crashed and zeroed out, the cops don’t have much to do. SARC/
Either shoot them or get them neutered. I applaud what these ladies did. I live only a few miles away.
Feral cats have a terrible effect on birds, especially low nesters and songbirds. In some places it is a real slaughter. I put out bluebird boxes and purple martin gourds, but the cats often devastate them, especially bluebirds.
I shoot strays on my property, but I’m out in the country without neighbors, so any cats out here truly wild. Since they could be abandoned, I’ll first call them over; if they come I’ll drop them at the shelter.
I don’t hate cats, I have one, but she stays indoors.
A few more details in link below. I think the ladies are downright to be saluted. I salute them.

SSS.
Only method proven effective against outdoor cats.
And there’s Science on cats, rats, they don’t affect the population of rats so much as populations of squirrels, songbirds, pollinators and other beneficial wildlife.

"My cold, dead hands …"
Isn’t what they did sometimes called “animal rescue”?
The jury will find these women not guilty. They’ll be at least one animal lover on the jury, and quite frankly, the entire jury will think this is ridiculous.
Maybe she was just trying to save the future from these;

There is video of the arrests out there. Interesting to watch.
Is there a statute of limitations on feral cat trapping? Asking for a friend?

That’s funny right there.

The governments everywhere are out of control. Work, pay taxes then the PoPo target you for random revenue enhancement activities. Druggie, theft, violent and also in a protected class then ignore or slap on the wrist.
The chief of police needs to have a good explanation on the wasted efforts/resources if there is any serious crime (property or persons) not fully resolved.
