WETUMPKA, Ala. – Two women are scheduled to stand trial in an Alabama city court where they’re accused of committing misdemeanors in their efforts to feed and trap stray cats.
Mary Alston, 60, and Beverly Roberts, 84, were arrested and taken to jail by police in Wetumpka over the summer. The police chief said the women had previously been warned not to feed stray animals.
A trial was set for Tuesday morning in Wetumpka Municipal Court. Both women, who were arrested on public property, face misdemeanor counts of criminal trespassing, the Montgomery Advertiser reported. Roberts was also charged with disorderly conduct, while Alston faced a charge of interfering with government operations.
Terry Luck, an attorney for one of the women, said they were performing a public service by trapping stray cats and having them neutered and spayed.
“There were plenty of other ways this could have been addressed without these ladies being arrested and taken to jail,” Luck said.
Wetumpka Police Chief Greg Benton said feeding the cats had created a nuisance because it attracts more animals to the area. He said both women had been “repeatedly” warned to stop prior to being arrested.
The prosecutor assigned to the case, Brad Ekdahl, said he's aware the arrests have attracted attention beyond Wetumpka, a city of 7,200 people that's located about 15 miles (24 kilometers) northeast of Montgomery.
“I think the best approach is to present the evidence in a fair and impartial manner and allow the judge to render a verdict,” Ekdahl said.
Keep owls and hawks fed enough to stay around and eat the cats.
There were better ways to handle this.

As for the fool who mixed tuna and antifreeze, he should get the same treatment. He has a warped mind. Antifreeze is a horrible death. I hate these people. They deserve much worse than they get.
Most men hate cats because they can’t control them. That control thing is a male weakness. What it indicates I’m not sure, something about compensation for inadequacies probably.
In Wyoming if you shoot a stray cat and law enforcement responds the only thing they do is critique your shot.
hmmm...in our area the left ear is clipped. They had to do it because some animals were getting trapped repeatedly.
the tip of the right ear is clipped off so if they are trapped in the future they are instantly released.

So the DA will instantly release them? (But it doesn’t mean they were neutered.)

Or peeing on stuff in the carport.
Or eating the songbirds.
Note that this does NOT mean I approve of tuna and antifreeze.
Maybe it is more about neighbor control, the ones who let their cats roam all night. Or the ones who feed and enable ferals to reproduce.
Yeah. How bout that. Simple solutions not involving dildos with cherry top cruisers and guns for non-problems.

Then maybe you should try some.
While I am no fan of cats, unduly causing pain (actually agony) to a cat by feeding them anti-freeze is totally unnecessary and a little off the charts (almost Jeffrey Dahmer off the charts).
Town people would live trap them then dump them out at our farm in southeast Wyoming. Cats are horrible on the pheasant population. We shot them whenever we could.

Well, squirrels still have natural predators that keep their population under control. House cats, not so much (unless you live somewhere where bobcats and coyotes are common).

More like a male drive, a drive that led us to conquer the whole damn planet and make it safe for women.
