I'll chime in for C. I'm not as much inclined to C++ because of the overhead; if I wanted a more memory-safe language I've heard Rust has become a favorite, to the point where Linux is now allowing it in kernel development -- that's a big deal. I haven't looked into it yet and probably will eventually.
But standard ANSI C will always be my own go-to language for anything where I need to have control of the reins, which in operating system development is absolutely essential. Yeah, it's not "safe", but if you need training wheels and holding Mommy's hand, you shouldn't be writing operating systems.

I've heard Rust has become a favorite, I heard a female cinema-photographer got killed in the development of that. I'd steer clear, myself.

There are always the “_s” versions of the C functions ... or you can just make sure you know what the hell you’re doing. That’s what C assumes.

I wqrite in a version of Navajo code talkers, that of a freqiqnrt typos maiankly due to stiff arthritic fingers so that as i musrt lift up my hand for each hunt ansd peack letter i often miss the kwty that wan t rto land on and hirt anotyjer, and if I did not use the spell checker ficntion to0 corerert them then my pots would look swmeqhat lie this oen. worse if I try to typue fastert.
Now you can better understand the emphasis I place and remapping keys and shortcuts!
But just to satisfy curiosity, why hasn't someone written a code using just letters/words (not with my typing!) and or even images, or have they?
