I sure hope there is a breakthrough on this case, but I’m afraid it is looking less and less likely.
I can’t help but wonder about the recent rash of home invasion and stabbing murders taking place this year — Salem, Oregon; Washougal, Washington; Moscow, Idaho; and one in Massachusetts.
Like parents at the school board meeting . . . it will be we the people that get/bring justice to fruition.
Dad’s gonna feel like a real chump if he derails the investigation by “revealing” this little tidbit. He needs to keep his mouth shut.
As a former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney, and who is now a state and federal certified investigator, these parents need to stop with all this information release. They could very well compromise the investigation. As I prosecutor or investigator I would be livid about all these releases. And, I would stop briefing the parents. As a defense attorney, I would be eating this up and preserving all this information. It could well be strong evidence to muddy the waters in a trial if the killer(s) are ever apprehended. This day and age of private investigations by family and podcasters has been bad for ascertaining the truth in these cases. Shut your mouths, and leave the investigating to the professionals who have the power of government and the courts to do their job.

Agree. I appreciate their frustration but you have to let the pros do their job.
“in their ongoing search for the suspect”

It is curious how they are so sure it was only one person involved in the killings.
Well stated. I’ve been shocked at the loose lips on family members. Didn’t anybody brief them on how to behave, how to keep their mouths shut, and how the case can be tainted if they blab? Who could be convincing them to talk? Reporters? People with nefarious designs?
I wonder what it was. Mail-in ballot?
Or is it possible that the slip of the tongue by the parent was actually planned by the investigation team? Might it be a trap to catch the killer?
Probably something to do with expired “Forever” stamps.

Actually, this dad has not said anything that would advance the investigation, quite the opposite. Why does the public need to know the two girls were sleeping in the same bedroom, or the perp came in through the sliding glass door, or certain people have been cleared, different manners of death, and now a tip on something mail related. These seem to be really important INTERNAL investigation details.
If it were my child I would tell the media, “Anything I say might compromise the investigation. Go away and do not come back.”
Bad review on Amazon?
The desire for media attention trump’s common sense.
No. That is never a good idea. Releasing information can only hamper the investigation. Especially when giving out information that only the suspect(s) would know. Like the point of entry, they location of the victims, they type of knife, etc. They just lets the suspect(s) know what’s up.
Wonderful post. Good to know how things work. Thanks.
Is there a way to get the message to the parents?
