Christine McVie, the co-lead vocalist, songwriter and keyboardist of Fleetwood Mac, has died aged 79 following a 'short illness', her family have revealed.
In a statement, McVie's family said she was 'a revered musician who was loved universally' and was surrounded by loved ones when she died.
'She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th following a short illness. She was in the company of her family.
'We kindly ask that you respect the family's privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being.'
Her former bandmates said tonight they're devastated by the loss, describing her as 'the best friend anyone could have in their life'.
'She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure... She was the best musician anyone could have in their band. We were so lucky to have a life with her.
'Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.'
Stevie Nicks shared the statement to her own Twitter account this evening.
The British-American rock band was one of the most successful groups of all time, selling 100 million records globally.
McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1971 as a permanent member, and the band achieved even greater popularity with the addition of Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham in the mid-1970s.

Interestingly enough; for as much of a diva that Stevie was she said she & Christine were always very close & looked out for each other. I found that very sweet.
The new term is “fuodroyant cancer,” meaning sudden and devastating. Brought on by c19 jabs. My neighbor died of this. Lung cancer in remission for 2 years. Returned 2 months post 2nd jab, dead 2 months after that.
It’s nauseating, just the memory.
I am a big fan of Christine McVie and pre-Stevie Nicks Fleetwood Mac. Loved “Say You Love Me” off of Fleetwood Mac (white album) which she wrote and sang.
She was planning on leaving Twitter so I heard.
It’s good to die surrounded by your family.
Your conflating two things that took place at the same time and suggesting one caused the other without a shred of evidence demonstrating causality.
I really liked Fleetwood Mac back when Peter Green started the band and they were a part of the British blues scene.
Not really.
If pop culture didn’t drive it, what is your alternative hypothesis?
I was 14 when the big LA / Watts race riots happened. Then I was 16 when the Newark and Detroit race riots happened. Those years of senseless burning of the cities put me off to MoTown which lasts to this day. I never could really enjoy that sound.
Asking me for an answer when yours is completely unsupported is weak and lame.
Your claim amount to saying the culture destroyed the culture. Care to add some substance to that?
My favorite Christine McVie song, Come a Little Bit Closer from the Heros are hard to find album

Stevie Nicks got all the attention, but Christine was a superior singer/musician IMO.
Can we agree that society has devolved? Leftists would say progressed.
“IMO the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame did a disservice to Bob Welch when they omitted mention of his contributions to Fleetwood Mac”
Indeed, LP “Mystery to Me” is a fine album with Bob and Christine on vocals.
“...but Christine deserved an equal share.”
The LIONS share of credit. Wrote the songs, sang most of the hits, had the better voice.
We can but that wasn’t your original claim. You claimed a musical group kicked off the societal decay.
Loved her singing and her songwriting. Thank you Christine for your lovely music. God’s speed.
