I found out that not only is SS not taxed, but any pension income up to $35k is also not taxed. So, if you can keep your “taxable” income below that, you’re golden. And because there is a state income tax for the rest of ‘em, real estate and sales taxes are low. In our case, 32 acres, a home and new 30x60 shop building, two streams and a LOT of lumber (which is saleable) costs us far less than $500 a year in real estate taxes. Our monthly living expenses are quite literally 1/3 of just our SS checks.
I dont know where but will describe my ideal:
- some land, about 40 ac perhaps more
- access to water via either river, lake or well preferred over city water
- leach field for septic system
- access to electricity and phone
- access to road ways
- access to Natural gas pipeline
On which I would build:
- 3,500 sq foot house - enough room for the kids to move back if needed. Primarily use ICF blocks and fill with concrete
- two 1,200 sq foot dome green houses for food supply
- 2,000 sq foot garage and work shed
- chicken coop
- 30 foot 5 kw VAWT
- 5 kw solar panels on the garage
- underground 1,000 sq foot panic room / bunker
- geothermal and biomass heating for house and green house
- wood pellet boiler for garage (I live in Colorado, lots of wood needs to be removed from state / federal forests)
Now I just need to come up with the $500k to $1 M
Incorrect !
I live in Florida....and there's PLENTY of real estate on the market throughout the state....plus we have low taxes compared to other states.
You're correct, however, in that the damn-yankee Dems are fleeing to Florida...that is precisely why we should be ENCOURAGING, not discouraging, FReepers and all conservatives who are thinking of re-locating from blue states...to move to Florida thereby KEEPING Florida a red state !!
Viva our great Governor DiSantis !

We compromised by staying in Arizona.

Well, they both start with “A”.
I moved to Aiken County, South Carolina from Louisville, KY 20 years ago and have never looked back. Solidly red state, great weather with hardly no snow or ice, friendly people, etc.
So does Alaska, but that was right out.
IMHO, near to wherever most of your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren live...
Everything else pales in significance...
Find a spreadsheet with state tax withholdings and state sales tax on it find the one that you find acceptable.
You might want to start checking to see which states have been solidly red for any number of reasons other than Biden pissed them off. If they were blue and they turned purple and then red it is still wishy washy to me.
Check arrest reports, death rates, and other metrics close to your normal.
Read up on local Gov’t and op-ed comments on local newspapers. Who owns the local newspapers? Who are the Fed, state, and local office holders? Public notices? Does land perk?
When we registered our car in East Tennessee earlier today, the clerk told us we owed five and a quarter. Back in godless Soviet Red Hampshire, that would have meant Five hundred and twenty-five DOLLARS to register my car. Here in Tennessee, that meant FIVE DOLLARS and twenty-five cents...to register my car. You can KEEP blue Red Hampshire (and their astronomical property tax, as well)!
Voting isn’t all it cracked up to be, anyway.
Jonesborough is a little island of liberalism in a sea of red.
That's interesting. I'll bet my oldest son (former LEO) is having a ton of fun with them, LOL!! Oh boy wouldn't I love to be a fly on the wall whenever he goes up against one of them. They're in for a real treat! I raised that boy!
When I drive thru Jonesborough, I can ALWAYS count on seeing one of those rainbow-striped ‘LOVE IS LOVE’ signs staked in someone’s yard...
New York City in AOC’s district.
You wold never be bored!
The cats always vote with her anyway, because she feeds them.
Hi.
You do realize that if Florida gets too many Yankees living here, the peninsula will break off (between Tallahassee and Jax), and we all will drown?

I’m going to retire on my 25 acres in north Alabama. I have anther 6-8 years to work unless I push it onto my wife. Women do live longer and can work longer. Just saying. House will be paid off next year. So who knows.
It gives her a chance to run your land without your help.
That’s doing your job as a husband, to teach her independence.

Wonderful testimony FRiend. If we could do the winters, would be there in a heartbeat. Standing strong with you, from warmer climates.
