Jay Leno suffered "serious burns" in a gasoline fire on Nov. 12, but looked happy and healthy in a photo shared Monday after he was discharged from the Grossman Burn Center
Jay Leno is headed home.
The former Tonight Show host, 72, was discharged from Grossman Burn Center in the Los Angeles area on Monday, nine days after he suffered "serious burns" in a garage gasoline fire. Center staff shared an image of the smiling comedian alongside several of his caretakers.
"Comedian Jay Leno was released from the Grossman Burn Center today," doctors shared in a release obtained by PEOPLE on Monday. "After a 10-day stay at the facility, Jay will receive follow-up care at the Grossman Outpatient Burn Clinic for burns to his face, chest and hands he received during a fire at his home garage. Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received, and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes. He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday."
Within the statement, his physician Dr. Peter Grossman added, "I am pleased with Jay's progress, and I am optimistic that he will make a full recovery."
Leno underwent treatment involving surgical excision and grafting procedure, which removes unhealthy tissue in an effort to promote wound healing and reduce the risk of infection. Grossman said that with Leno's burns, "much of the thickness of the skin was injured" in some areas, so unhealthy tissue was being removed.

Fuel.
It’s an EXTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE.....................
Fun ride, I got one airborne
“Melted sugar is like lava”
As the British gunners at New Orleans discovered. They fortified their gun positions with sacks of sugar. And when a hot cannonball smashes into a bag of sugar.....severe burns to the crews, and the guns became hot, sticky, unusable messes.
I never knew he had a famous chin. Anything else famous about him beside wealth and cars?
Thank heavens his hair is intact!
Heheh. Yep. Riding the beach in San Diego during Crewman’s Course, my instructor asked me to please stop sniffing glue. I hit those dunes like a madman, and rattled the crap out of everyone in the rear. :D Not generally good practice, on a regular basis, excessive jumping can result in hull stress fractures...
He was working on the clogged fuel line of a steam powered auto (a White). Those are pressurized to atomize the fuel at a burner to heat the water. A leak sprayed the fuel on him and a spark ignited it.
Interesting. I had heard that it was his steam car but the article didnt say how so I assumed a pressurized steam burn.
Lav,s shit and git!
My handle comes from when I first signed up for a personal email account, and was trying to figure out a handle. One of the films they showed us at school was titled “Quickstrike”, so I decided that was good enough; not a lot of thought really went into it, was just trying to find a handle in a hurry and get my stuff set up. It stuck.
“What burn marks?
His hair does not seem to be affected at all.
Much to do about nothing”
Yeah, nine days in the hospital, “much to do about nothing”
It’s obvious he has neck, chin and lower jaw issues and we can’t see the other side of his face.
You clearly know nothing about Jay Leno. It’s not like he’s changing the oil in an 85 Buick.
I didn’t see anything about it being a steam engine. Leno owns a lot of cars other than his steamers.
He almost lost his life.
Jay looks like a homeless guy. Lol
“He’s a multi-millionaire and veteran late night TV legend, but still needs to work on cars”?
He’s invested $ millions in cars and is a hands-on guy who enjoys working on them. You figure it out.
As Mark Twain once said, “Man is the only animal that blushes - or needs to”
Glad that was not worse though.
That has to be painful.
