MINNEAPOLIS -- Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Thursday she would call a Senate hearing to probe Ticketmaster after the Taylor Swift ticket fiasco this week left many fans frustrated and empty handed.
This comes as the company canceled the general public sale of tickets originally scheduled for Friday "due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand." Swift fans sought tickets earlier this week with pre-sale codes and credit card exclusives, a rollout that was beset by technical problems.
Klobuchar, who chairs a Senate subcommittee focused on consumer protection and anti-trust, said she also wants the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate. She already sent a letter to CEO of Ticketmaster expressing "serious concerns about the state of competition in the ticketing industry and its harmful impact on consumers," and seeking answers to direct questions about its operations.
She believes the company, which is the product of a merger between Ticketmaster and Live Nation a decade ago, is too big and too powerful.
"There just has to be consequences for this kind of behavior," Klobuchar told WCCO. "Because unlike competitive markets, where you just go down the street if you don't like one store, you go to this store, you go to this grocery store -- you don't have that choice here."

Yes, remember this when we see a dozen articles in the major media about the republicans focusing on “silly things” like Hunter Biden, but not a single article asking why the federal government should hold hearings into the known fact that Ticketmaster is a horrible company.
Until people are willing to stand up and say “I’m just not going to a concert if I have to buy my tickets through that company”, stupid venues will continue to deal with them.
Democrat/communists are such children.

Don’t disagree with you. I’ve never voted for Amy - not even when she was Hennepin County Attorney. But I will give her credit for one things.
Rightly or wrongly, she makes herself visible. Now we can debate as to whether they are more pressing matters in the world than Ticketmaster (and we’d both agree there are), she manages to find the spotlight.
She shows up to see that old veterans are awarded the Silver Star they never got. She’s always at the state fair greeting people the first day when it opens, etc.
People remember this stuff. It would do our GOP incumbents to do the same. I cite Norm Coleman as an example. between his election in ‘02 and re-election in ‘08, he was the invisible Senator. No one knew WTF he was doing. If he had put 1/2 of the effort in that Amy does, he’d have easily won re-election against Al Franken.
That’s how Tom Daschle survived as long as he did in a red state like South Dakota. He retailed campaigned like there was no tomorrow. he also acted more conservative when he was back in the state too - but that’s a different story.
As much as Amy disgusts me, politically she’s doing the right things. People remember the low IQ things like Ticketmaster and not that she’s votes like a Socialist on most matters. They ignore the fact that she’s really an empty pants suit.
Our GOP incumbents should learn the ins and outs of better politicking too.
Seems like a Taylor Swift/Ticketmaster business arrangement problem between those two Amy.

It was part of the allure of bands like The Who and The Stones.

Some teenage girl did not get her ticket to go see Taylor Swift. Boo hoo. So we need senate hearings to find out what happened. Everything else can wait because nothing else is as important as this.
More likely she has a spoiled rotten daughter or grand daughter who thought NANA could pull some strings to get her tickets to see Taylor Swift.
When she couldn’t get them she decided to do something.
There is a 25 year old woman in my office who has been driving everyone nuts about the last three days in regards to Ticketmaster’s sale of these concert tickets.
She finally had to get her boyfriend call a buddy who works for one of Robert Craft’s companies. Robert Craft owns the stadium in Foxboro, MA. where one of the concerts is scheduled.
FYI, there are a couple 50 year old guys in my office that are in the Taylor Swift fan club just so they can buy tickets. Not to go, but to resell them on Stub Hub for a quick profit. They were also former members of the Hannah Montana fan club years back for the same reason.
The point is IF you can figure out which is going to be the next BIG POP MUSIC star whose concerts will sell out because stupid young girls get their rich parents to buy them tickets YOU CAN MAKE A LOT OF MONEY.
I’m sure we’ve all seen the movie Idiocracy. This type of stuff is all that is important to Gen Z and the Millenials.
This is the issue:
I am not sure what the face value of these tickets, but I am going to assume they are being marked up 5X face value.
This is what drives the demand. People willing to pay $1000s of dollars to make their little girl happy.
You and I would not have paid $100 to see The Who, The Stones or even the Beatles. I saw The Who twice. I never paid more than $25. Even in 2022 dollars, that is only $150 ish.
Live Nation PAC gave $5,000 over the last year...... too bad they gave so little, now the man is at the door! That’s a warning to others, donate or die!
