Taking out the Kerch Bridge railway lines was a master stroke. Now the Russians cannot supply their Kherson region troops via the Crimea. The Russian forces are now cut off from resupply of fuels, such as diesel and gasoline, food, artillery shells and everything.

They just might get routed by Ukrainian forces in the next month or two

It’s Peter Zeihan, not Zaihan.

Pronounced like Zine, rymes with sign.

He’s an effective Mockingbird, for sure.

It appears that Crimea does have severe water shortage.

Inside Crimea’s water crisis

A deepening water crisis in Crimea is putting severe strain on the Russian government’s finances. Moscow is also under increasing pressure to deliver on the promises it made when illegally occupying the peninsula, internationally recognised as Ukrainian territory, in 2014.

For several months, cities in Russian-occupied Crimea have been rationing their water. In most of the region, authorities only provide water for six hours a day: three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening.

The Kerch bridge takeout is key to the Russians dilemma in the Kherson region. How did the Ukrainians manage to take out the Kerch Bridge railway and roadway at the same time? I have seen no theories on this. But I have seen many theories how just the roadway was destroyed. Well, there is single lane traffic on it now. No heavy trucks allowed.

Great news to me. I don’t love Ukraine but I hate russia for invading a sovereign nation as they did.... Twice.

Good luck to them. I hope to see them put the russians to ground kick their teeth in and then kick them in the nuts.

Putin is way out of line on this and there is no excuse or reason for his actions other than domination. Nothing else matters, Ukraine can be as corrupt as their people will allow, it is their business and does not somehow justify an invasion of their soil. Nothing short of aggression on their part does and they have not done that.

Cutting the bridges over the Dnieper river was important. It reduced them to ferries that won’t support heavy vehicles, like tanks. Getting their armor back across won’t be easy.

I don’t like War, but invasion of a Sovereign Country draws the line for me.

England did good in that hit. Don’t mess with UK. One truck bomb and the war is won for the Ukraine proxy army. Masterful. Now you see how England won an empire. Putin was playing chess, England was playing Rugby.

In my interactions with Russians over the past 12 years since I moved to Poland, here is what my personal observations of Russian people I’ve met are

> All the people I met with one exception were really nice people.
> About half were anti-Putin, and of the other half, most didn’t say anything.
> The ones who aren’t anti-Putin have a strong imperialist mindset
that’s what they were taught - that Russia liberated people in Central Europe and in Central Asia.
They are shocked when they find out that Russia allied with Nazi Germany in 1939 - they aren’t taught that
They are shocked that people don’t appreciate them for “liberating” them
They are shocked to learn about what happened in the Eastern bloc due to Russia.

This war, Putin’s war, is a result of this brainwashing. Russians need to get rid of their imperialist mindset (which is ironic considering that they call everyone else an imperialist) - with their soft power, they could have a better influence than military force.

Railway damage may be a lucky break. The way I see it, the explosion from roadway damaged fuel train, setting it ablaze.
Instead of total explosion, burning fuel started to leak and flowed down the side of bridge, even reaching its underside. The fire was intense and went on for hours. Heat damage reached deep inside the bridge structure, making it too hazardous to use.

NOPE. It CURRENTLY has an ABUNDANCE OF WATER. You posted an article from April 2021, over 1 1/2 years ago before they reopened the canal.

In case of Russia and China, national identity is tightly intertwined with imperial mindset. What make them proud of their country is that it is a ‘great empire.’ If their country is no longer an empire, their pride will be hit badly. This mindset might have been formed way back even before Soviet Union. In Chinese case, almost two millennia ago.

I am afraid that the only way to cure it is to make their territory small or break it into smaller pieces, and stay that way for a long time.

The blast effect from a large explosion can damage (and set fire to) rail tanker cars. With a near certainty sending the truck bomb onto the bridge was timed for when there was a fuel train on the bridge. The drive of the truck was an unknowing stooge so the blast was likely remotely triggered by someone in visible sight (or via GPS tracking) of the truck’s location relative to the train.

Of course the bombers may have simply gotten lucky with the train’s presence.

The canal flows from Kakhovka Reservoir, whose control Russia can lose if they are pushed out of Kherson. Ukraine could shut it down. Then Crimea's water problem will be back. That is what I am talking about. Russia reopened it only after the current invasion.

Reasonable theory. The burning fuel really did a number on the railway bridge. You know that railway bridges must be built and repaired much more precisely than a roadway bridge. Due to the heavy rattling loads. But how do you manage to hit the roadway and a moving fuel laden train at the same time? Lolzzzzz... The answer is that this train was stationary at the best possible location, for Lord knows what reason.

I only read this once. That the fuel laden train was stationary, not moving.

Ukraine could shut it down if the retook TOTAL control of Kherson Oblast INCLUDING THE AREAS ON THE LEFT BANK (EAST) SIDE OF THE DNIEPER. Russia is apparently only withdrawing from areas of Kherson on the right bank side of the river.

Wow, if so, EASY, PEASY. That would hugely simplify targeting.
