There was a healthy mix (remember...it's DU) of people who outright rejected the vitriol. Yes, there are some psychos there, but if a small but mildly reasonable quantum of DU posters can produce this kind if retort, there IS some hope for the Republic....
Anyone with a glancing familiarity with history knows that dehumanizing a stranger you consider your enemy because of their politics usually doesn't end with just that. It's a very dark path.
People are free to do as they will, but my parents raised me a certain way. I think they did a pretty good job of rendering me more or less socially well-adjusted. When this topic comes up (and it does perpetually), "Why is this country so hateful?!" Well . . . tada. And, "People made me be this way!" isn't going to cut it. People need to take some responsibility for themselves. More and more, all over the place, I keep finding myself saying, "Is being normalsauce for just one day not a thing anymore?"
Sorry, it's not. And the back pats just add to the weirdness. "A stranger whose politics I don't like is dead! Yeah!" This shouldn't be normalized.
Imagine, "Hey, I saw a random Democrat I don't know is dead. Hooray!" Anyone who doesn't immediately side eye that has some weird lack of socialization going on, IMO.

I can only endure visiting the DU once every year or two.
I think the last time I did I observed one positive thing: The majority are solidly and vocally opposed to the sexualization of children.
Perhaps there are enough to slow down some of the more extreme Democrat positions on abortion (after birth and approving the sale of baby body parts) and pushing LGBT on children.
On the other hand, I am not reassured about any hope of peacefully coexisting with the radical left.
