It's an unbelievably powerful performance
I've got it cued up to the end of the fireworks where
Christopher Macchio Performs 'Nessun Dorma' at the White House
then the first two versus of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah and
the Ave Maria
I think Trump had promised Milania a surprise before the event
You can almost see it in her face at the end of the ave that
she realizes that THAT was the surprise.
My Italian friend typed this translation back to me that night
No sleep! ¿Nessun dorma!¿¿No sleep! ¿Nessun dorma! ¿¿You too, oh Princess ¿Tu pure, oh Principessa ¿¿In your cold room ¿Nella tua fredda stanza ¿¿Look at the stars that tremble ¿Guardi le stelle che tremano ¿¿Of love and hope¿D'amore e di speranza¿But my mystery is closed in me ¿Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me ¿¿No one will know my name ¿Il nome mio nessun saprà ¿¿No, no, I'll say it on your mouth ¿No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò ¿¿When the light shines ¿Quando la luce splenderà ¿¿And my kiss will melt ¿Ed il mio bacio scioglierà ¿¿The silence that makes you mine¿Il silenzio che ti fa mia¿(No one will know his name ¿(ll nome suo nessun saprà ¿¿And we must, alas, die, die)¿E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir)¿Fade away, oh night ¿Dilegua, oh notte ¿¿Set, stars ¿Tramontate, stelle ¿¿Set, stars ¿Tramontate, stelle ¿¿I'll win at dawn ¿All'alba vincerò ¿¿It will win ¿Vincerà ¿¿I will win¿Vincerò¿

your post and link is a wonderful gift to us all on today, Q’s birthday.
Thank you!
(Song is sung by Calaf, the unknown Prince, who had correctly answered 3 challenge questions to win he right to marry the haughty beautiful princess Turandot. (To have failed would have resulted in his death...) Although he answered correctly, She refuses to marry him. He however, he gives her a chance to refuse that marriage if she can learn his name before the sunrise and offers to die if she does. She commands that "No one sleeps!"; her servants must stay up all night and learn the unknown prince's name under threat of death if they can not. Calaf sings and repeats her command that "No one Sleeps"

No one sleeps!
No one sleeps!
Even you, oh princess,
in your cold room,
look at the stars
that tremble with love
and hope!
But my mystery; it is locked in me.
And my name, no one will know!
No, no!
On your mouth
I will say it,
when the light
will shine!
And my kiss will break the silence,
that makes you mine!
His name no one will know...
(singing by Turando's servants who are tasked with learning hiss name) And we shall have, alas, to die, to die...!
Disperse, o night!
Vanish, oh stars!
Vanish, oh stars!
At daybreak, I will win!
I will win!
I will win!

Why did Trump chose this song? He is taunting the Left and the DS about the identity of the Unknown Prince, "Q", and boasting that he will win. "You don't know his name! My head is on the line but I (he) Will Win!" (Is that Scavino smiling somewhere in the back ground?)
The D/S sends its servants to raid MAL seeking--perhaps and among other things-- to learn the identity of "Q" and the standing plan to use the military to take back America in case of a breakdown like the current breakdown we are experiencing.
Every analogy breaks down at some point...Trump is trying to win the American people, not the DS (analogous to Turandot.)
(Off to do things while it is still semi-summer!)
"Nessun dorma" was the one commercial hit from "Turandot," Puccini's last opera, from 1924 which he left unfinished. In his mature operas, there is a big buildup in the orchestra for the big commercial number. He telegraphs his punch. But in "Turandot," Puccini lets the aria materialize out of nothing. It comes as a shock to the audience. It's one of the greatest tenor arias ever written.
Thank you! You made a stellar contribution, with your translation of “Nessum Dorma”, to edify anyone interested and on symbolism at its best. 🏆
