They can still take trades courses. They can still go out for track and field, basketball and baseball.
It wouldn't kill them to take "drafting" Math and English.

We used to teach Latin and French in high school. Now wew teach remedial math and English in college.
Football builds character in young men that non-contact sports don't. I made it through Marine Reconnaissance training in large part because football taught me not to quit when I got my dick knocked in the dirt. It also taught me to keep my cool and be aggressive between the whistles.
