The human body is unfathomably complicated. One size never fits all. My gramps was a dentist and he had all sorts of problems culminating in radiation poisoning from the army.

When I became an RN I learned quickly one can get a history of family but that one person...that one set of chromosomes or problem is an anomaly and doesn’t fit, and yet it’s right there in front of you.

You’re right, some people can care for their teeth, floss, regular check ups, carry a brush everywhere and they’ll rot no matter. Another brushes once a day and no cavities, no gum issues for decades. It’s kind of not fair but what can you do about it?
Take care.

Most Medicare Advantage plans include some basic dental like x-rays, cleaning and exams.

I needed a lot of dental work, so I worked with a dental school. I graduated two dental students there, and it was top-notch, well-supervised care.

Still expensive, but cheaper than the private route.

God never intended for people to live much further than their 20s or 30s...

Doesn't jibe with the Bible. He meant for Adam and Eve to live in Eden forever, but they blew it. Adam made it to 930 years. His sons lived nearly as long. After the flood, the lifespans declined about half and then about half again until the time of David:

Psalm 90:10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

We gained a few years but are now declining once again, or so I've read. Before toothbrushes, people did clean their teeth, so not everyone lost or wore down their teeth by the time they were in their 20s and 30s.

I need a crown on one tooth, and I don’t have dental insurance. I’m holding off because it’s pricey.

Aetna’s 2023 Medicare PPO plan premium is $87/month in California, free in many other states. The dental allowance is increasing from $750 in 2022 to $1250 in 2023. That’s enough for all your basic preventative plus enough left for a crown or some other major procedure.

Sounds right. I am using VA as my primary healthcare with an Advantage plan backup, pointed at veterans.

The Advantage plan offers some dental coverage and I think it’s similar to your numbers. The VA offers a bit of that, too. The big difference is no Part D, and the Advantage plan for veterans has no drug coverage. The VA handles that. The Advantage plan refunds some of the Part B premium to compensate for no drug coverage.

But that’s not the subject here. Dental is a big deal. It can wipe retirees out. That’s why the Mexican option is so critical.

My dentist said to not waste my money with a dental plan. Doesn’t cover squat.

What we use is cash and Aetna Medicare Advantage.

Frankly, there are lots of Medicare and Advantage pharmaceuticals where it is cheaper to use a GoodRx card or just plane cash than the co-pay.

Taking good care of your teeth (brushing, flossing, eating right, etc.) and then talking to your dentist is the best course of action.

Aetna Medicare Advantage has a very limited dental plan that basically requires you to pay the charges and then they do a reimbursement up to a very limited amount.

Medicare is about rationing medical benefits. You need to take personal and financial responsibility for your health and count on it only for what it does well. It does not do dental well.

Good luck.

Can’t afford anything like that, especially at age 75. With my !uck, I’d pay all that extra money, and drop dead the next week.

Most Medicare Advantage plans already include dental care like exams, X-rays, etc. But if you need a Medicare Supplement plan, you can add extras packages to cover dental care.
