Saw it as a kid, too. Thought the Orgasmatron was interesting and its sound was hilarious. Same for his robot dog, Rags, and the whole robot impersonating scene.

‘I know this is Woody Allen...’

...who was gifted with a quick mind and the ability to use it to make people laugh; whatever his personal quirks and objectionable behaviors, he has proven his worth...

many scenes come to mind; the ventriloquists with their dummies during prison vistation, putting blindfolds on execution victims and getting his hand stuck in one of them, freaking out as the rifles were fired, passing an illegible note to a bank teller during a robbery (I have a gub), playing cello in a marching band...

Remember the fake VW ad that National Lampoon ran once? It was a photo of a floating Bug with a caption something like “If Ted Kennedy had been driving a VW, he might be President today.”

My wife-to-be and I moved from Ohio to Hollywood so I could attend UCLA and pay their $100/qtr tuition.

Wanting to trade my totally unreliable Mustang, we visited “Bob Smith’s Hollywood VW/Porsche” dealership.

In the showroom, the VW Bug had a sticker of $1500

The sticker on the Porsche 911 was...$5000.

We bought the Bug.

I remember seeing it as a kid too and laughing really hard during those scenes with the giant fruit and pudding. I despise Allen for being a freak but he really did make some good movies.

Woody Allen. Isn't he the scumbag that had an affair with his daughter?

Huh? She was adopted?

Oh. That makes it ok. /s

I eschew all things Woody Allen. Pervert.

In this future smoking was good, eggs & bacon are healthier than granola. The orb scene was funny too.

I agree. Eggs are good for you. They are nutrition dense and inexpensive (until Bidenflation). Sounds like you have the perfect diet.

That’s the house? I’m sure I’ve seen it going to Central City but never connected it to the movie! I don’t think I-70 even existed there yet when the movie was made. I’ll be checking that out next time out there.

I liked Allen's films in the 1970s. I thought they were hilarious, especially Love and Death. But they don't age well. Seeing them again, I find them more annoying than funny.

I've only see a handful of his films since 1980, usually long after they came out. Celebrity was cringe. Kenneth Branagh played his role as if he were doing an Allen impersonation throughout the film.

I've seen a few other random Allen films with younger actors who don't so much act as do an Allen impersonation. Like Cafe Society. And that other film with Christina Ricci.

Allen ran out of things to say by 1980. Most of his stories and observations about sex and relationships are identical to those in Annie Hall and Manhattan. I find most of his films from the past 40 years (the few I saw) to be forgettable and interchangeable.
