Maybe not his best asset, but they were a very valuable asset. Or they had the potential to be a very valuable asset at some point in the future. He spent a hundreds of millions building it.

Biden told Putin that invading Ukraine would cost him NS2. However there was no urgency to make good on that threat months ago when the invasion started, because NS2 was not in use. There was time to get an operation planned and the mines planted, on both NS1 and NS2.
Allow me to further postulate that NS1 was the cost of Russia starting the process to annex Ukrainian territory, and that cost was imposed quickly because NS1 was flowing gas to Europe. Naturally the account was balanced for NS2 at the same time.
Which leads one to ponder, what will be the cost imposed on Russia for completing the annexation of those territories?
I am just curious why Nord Stream 1 did not erupt in flames? It should have. Flowing nat gas is highly flammable.

There’s been so boy ONE head of state in the entire world to announce his intention to “END” the Nordstream.
It was a direct threat.
