Not everything is political.
People get homesick and regret leaving the place they are used to and felt at home in.
There's a lot of nostalgia and romance attached to the places where one grew up. She sees that her kids will have the Texas experience and doesn't object, but she wishes that they also kept something of the New York experience.
I get that she does have very "New York City" political views, but if people can only engage with her in political terms, that may not be her problem.

She apparently likes to be photographed nekkid. Shocking that she’s divorced.

It's much safer for the kids to die in a drive-by shooting than by rattlesnake.

Boo - effin’ - hoo, babe. I was born in New York as well, but only because my dad was flying F101s at Suffolk County AFB. Mom and Dad are born-and-bred Texans, so I consider myself a Texan with a certificate of birth abroad.

Back in the 70s in Alaska people said happiness is 10,000 Okies headed south with a Texan under each arm.
Happiiness for me is prune pickers, yankees, wet backs and all other manner of invaders of the south selling out at a loss and going somewhere else. I don’t care where just as long as they leave.

I worry about my kids’ safety wherever they go while living in a state with historically loose gun laws.
I’m originally from NY. I’d NEVER go back to try to live.
Too much damned gun violence.

Neither Texas nor Houston is the south.
Texas is Texas.
And Houston/Harris County are not the south.

Approach any random male neighbor and actually introduce yourself. Ask him to teach your children gun safety.
Next, teach your daughter to keep her pants on and not be a slut.
There, I just solved all of your problems.

“I worry about my kids' safety wherever they go while living in a state with historically loose gun laws. I worry about what women's health will be like for my daughter's generation. I debate on how young of an age I will tell her about contraceptives because of the war on women's access to care and treatment in this state.” Nothing is stopping you from going back to “safe” New York, Karen. Whiny Yankees are a nuisance.
I do feel sorry for your kids, though.

She forgot to mention the dead bloated dogs lining the sides of every street in the city, and left there for days. I’ve never seen anything like it, anywhere!
She has culture shock. I get it. But if you give the people there half a chance, you’ll find out they are really good people. They make it worth the time there.
