Her type of submarine most likely could not do (depths? other?) what would have to be done to cause one kilometer of damage by explosions.

Some smaller subs can actually go deeper than the bigger ones as they can be more spherical which gives them more structural strength....Don’t know what that little yellow submarine (wow know i have to go look up the lyrics to that song to see what might be buried in there) could do depth wise...
From what I've read, the bubbling at the surface was one K in diameter. Gas expands as it nears the surface. It wouldn't need to be that big of a break to cause that.
If what I read was correct.
You can't tell the size of the break from the pattern since the gas would rise from the upstream end of any hole. The size is simply a function of the gas spreading as it goes up.
