I know all about the problems caused by stubbornness and stupidity. Been dealing with that myself all day.

Aunt falls, again, last night. Again, she didn’t wear the shoes I got her and told her she had to wear when in this house full of wood floors. I can’t for the life of me understand barefoot culture. I’ve never been without a hard sole grippy slipper in a house since I was 8 and stepped on some idiot plastic pointy thing in my parent’s messy house.

She was trying to balance a too full thing of barbecue sauce on a paper plate instead of pouring a little onto the plate and putting the thing back in the fridge. The inevitable happened.

I have no patience for this kind of shit. It’s a good thing I never had kids. I would have been up on child abuse charges or sure. At least dealing with my father’s house gives me ample opportunity to take out my anger on all the overgrown stuff outside.

On the plus side, got a new teammate at work. She’s really neat. She gets me. She’s very eager to get out there and do things. I’m the only one training her. She’s assertive too. I may end up having to relinquish my title as “The Difficult One.” I’m not sure how I feel about that. I think I’m ready to be the Difficult One’s sidekick after all this time of having no sidekick of my own. It’s been exhausting.

Thanks CTC. Most of us in here aren’t kids so we have spouses that are having issues, or we are having issues. It comes with living long enough, I guess. His main blessing right now is that I’m almost 20 years younger than he is even though I’m in my 60’s. Except for a weak ankle, I’m fit and so far, I’m healthy.

I have bought slipper socks, house shoes with rubber bottoms, and all manner of footwear, and he will still make a run to the bathroom without them. Slipper socks make his legs swell, not because of diabetes but because he’s too sedentary. His legs are extremely weak. I had to buy a new recliner because he wore his first one out and his legs were too weak to push down and lock the bottom when he wanted to get up from reclining. I ended up buying him one of the older style recliners. I didn’t know he was having lung issues, because he didn’t tell me about the low oxygen at the doctor’s office, so to get him out of the chair I have been making him fix his own lunch and do little things that involved getting up. I noticed the other day when he went to the mailbox that he had to stop and rest twice coming back so I started doing that. That was the first clue to me that something was really off. Two days later he fell and went to the hospital.

He has so much junk in his room that requires being plugged in that this old house doesn’t have enough outlets for an electrically operated recliner. He won’t let anything go in order to free up outlets. I keep a fire extinguisher in his room. He knows better too. He’s a retired electrical engineer.

So, I see a hospital bed stationed in the living room someday down the road. At least if he falls out, he will fall on carpet.

Sorry I wrote a “book” but time is at a premium around here right now and before daylight is my only free time.
