There are some serious problems with simply cutting off energy to China. Xi is probably the most isolated national leader on Earth at the moment. Putin is a close second. He has created a cult of personality that would make Mao blush. Nobody wants to bring him bad news for fear of him shooting the messenger, literally.

The leaders of the CCP are all too aware of their precarious demographic and energy grip on power. Cut them off from oil and they might well react the same way Japan did when Roosevelt turned off American oil in the summer of 1941. If Xi thought he could remain in power with a loss of only 500 million Chinese he might just think that was an acceptable trade.

The problem for China is that Japan had a Navy capable of going down to the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia, and getting it. Also the DEI oil would meet Japan's needs. Indonesian oil will make a dent in China's problem but then China would only have a dented problem and a LOT of people out for their scalps.

The People's Liberation Army Navy(PLAN) has the largest Navy in the world. Unfortunately, for them, it simply can't project power past the first island chain. The US Navy is second in size and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is third. The US Navy can project power anywhere it chooses while the Japanese by themselves would put a hurting on the PLAN.

The list of countries with the ability and the desire to cut off Chinese oil includes, but is not limited to: the US, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, and India.

Personally, I would just as soon wait out China and let their demographics do the job for me.

Hey y’all, sorry I’ve been so silent - I’m fine!

It’s been harder than usual to keep up with the threads because real life is going so well lately! Truly, right now is the happiest of times for me. And nothing, absolutely nothing whatsoever that Bidumb, a hurricane, or anyone/thing else does can harsh my mellow one iota!

No, I haven’t gone back to work. It may or may not be in the cards for me to return, it’s still uncertain at this point. Frankly, I no longer care if I don’t. Many other good things are occupying my time. Like our small worship ensemble at church really homing in lately and finding its own unique sound, and being an utter fun pleasure to play with every Sunday. And finding a “BFF” (more like the sister I’ve never had, really), who’s near my age, on the same wavelength with me about every matter in life that’s even slightly important to us - a true kindred spirit. Prior to this, neither of us imagined such a friendship was even possible, and we’re very blessed that God put us in each other’s path at the perfect optimal time. (Just goes to show that you’re never too old to receive a wonderful surprise!)

So I’m lurking and trying my dangedest to stay current around here. Please be assured that I’m still stealing and sharing all the best memes - thankQ bigly, and y’all know who you are. ;) I usually jump ahead in the threads to catch the memes, and then try to go back and read all the posts. I’m usually at least several days behind everyone else.

the evidence so far points to the US - Biden bragging, we have the means to do it - but I do wonder who stands to benefit from such an act. I don’t really think that the US does, despite people on the internet claiming that we now have a monopoly on oil and gas for the EU. We can’t get gas to Europe in anywhere near the needed quantity, and certainly not without screwing up our own supply.

It’s a third party, not the US, not Russia. Who stands to benefit from a starved/frozen Europe?
