I had this great post half written. It was about nursing a husband who doesn’t want to be nursed and won’t follow directions...and it was about caring for geriatric patients.
I had just finished the part about husbands and I realized it was pretty long, so KEEPING IN MIND FOLKS’ PREFERENCE FOR NO MORE NOVELS, I stopped. Cos, ya know, community standards and all that.
I could go on about how some are more equal than others, but I’ll digress. Suffice it to say:
Nothing is harder to nurse than a stubborn man who is bigger than you! I would tell you that, as his caretaker, you are entitled and obligated to go with him to his doctor’s appointments. Put it to him like this: “Once you are able to motor about under your own steam and we both know you won’t fall, then you can go to the Dr.’s without me. Until then, I’m kinda responsible for keeping you alive. I need to know the WHOLE game plan to keep you safe and to keep you alive. Don’t like it? Then get to the point where you don’t need me here to be your back-up/pick-up nurse. Now, let’s get exercising!”

The House of Representatives passed a bill to establish an Office of Food Security at the Department of Veterans Affairs, with 49 Republicans voting AGAINST (Let ‘em starve) the proposal.
The Food Security for All Veterans Act was passed by a 376-49 vote, sending the bill to the Senate for approval.
The legislation, introduced by Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola, aims to establish a department to assist veterans facing food insecurity and lack of nutrition, such as providing them with information about food stamps and other programs.
Speaking on the House floor to advocate for what was her fist bill, Peltola said Alaska’s high veteran population motivated her to push for the introduction of the department.

During the question period I asked what the Soviets most admire about us (meaning the Navy but I'm sure it applied to the other services), what do they fear about us, and what do we do that most annoys them.
For what annoyed them it amounted to the quote about doctrine. This immensely complicates their planning. And as Fred Thompson said in The Hunt for Red October, "The Russians don't take a dump without a plan." Unfortunately, for them, when the plan didn't work, they didn't know what to do. Their system didn't exactly reward independent thought.
As to what they admire, it is our flexibility in thinking. In 1983 we took a Marine Amphibious Unit loaded out for an exercise in Turkey, made a right in the middle of the Atlantic and made an amphibious landing on the island of Grenada 48 hours later. This scared the Soviets more than you can imagine.
As to what the Soviets feared, it was the petty officers, especially the chiefs. If we killed all their officers they couldn't fight. If they killed all our officers the chiefs would take over and we would continue the battle.
