(he's a train nut like me)

I assume you're talking about model railroading, if not please ignore. I'm trying to get back into the hobby after 50 years. Monetary and space limitations necessitate N scale starter products. Have you had any success ordering online? If so, who are some of your trusted dealers? Please PM if you have any tips or pointers. TYIA.

>train stuff slide

I suspect they were talking about real trains.

If you want to get into model railroading again, after 50 years, I wouldn’t recommend N scale. Yes, it’s tiny, but if you want stuff that isn’t junk, it’s not going to be any cheaper.

It’s also not very user friendly for old eyes and fingers. Yes, I have some.

I would recommend getting an Atlas or Kato starter set. Bachmann is junk, and I’m dubious about the other manufacturers.

Personally, while it would take up more space, I think that HO scale is much more user friendly, and often cheaper.

Aside from Amazon/eBay, my favorite online place for train stuff is https://www.modeltrainstuff.com/

Anyway, enough about all that. I’m sure that everyone else is tired of this diversion and would like to welcome Mr. Bags back to the company of the living. Yay!

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your trains!

Nope - real trains. There’s a spot in Berea, Ohio, where the Norfolk Southern and CSX railroad mainlines run parallel - even a seldom-used crossover track there. Train watchers are almost always there. We saw 5 or 6 trains in the short time we were there - including one long coal train, and a train full of tanker cars.

He has the advantage of having the Wheeling & Lake Erie railroad tracks near his home and he gets a lot of railroad stuff going there.

I have no real tips on model railroading, other than N gauge is, by far, the most space-efficient, since it’s the smallest. I have a modest collection of Lionel train stuff, mostly packed away in storage. I don’t know where I would go to purchase railroad stuff, but it is still out there.
