AARP Membership?
Self

Posted on 09/15/2022 10:03:18 AM PDT by far sider

My wife has been wanting us to join AARP for some kind of prescription or medical benefit. I don't want to because....AARP. Is this a good idea financially? Does AMAC have anything comparable? Thanks.

My wife and I are of that age and we throw their stuff away without opening it. Big time lefties in the staff.

You can get Supplemental Plan F through many insurance companies. Ours is through Mutual Of Omaha. Used to be AFLAC (until they stopped this service in TN). We almost chose State Farm, but objected when they changed white Jake to black Jake. When we were researching, the different plans were very close in price to each other.

Yes. Mr Tea did this when he started Medicare and then we never renewed the membership. They regularly send pleas to renew. Unfortunately as I hit the big 65 after first of the year, we’ll have to resign up.

I reviewed 14 plans.

This was the best I found, so we bit the bullet and paid AARP $12. Didn’t renew. Kept the plan.

NOOOOOO!! The aarp Branded United Healthcare plans are very good, but you can join with a Broker or via 800# for UHC plans without joining aabarf which is very leftist.

AMAC has lots of good discounts for seniors and is a conservative alternative... ymmv

Will AARP send 25-50 cents of that to some lib cause? Likely.

They'll probably spend a hell of a lot more than that on mailings to you to get to to renew. If you don't mind the junkmail, you'll probably end up costing them money in the long run.

yes, the Aetna MC plan doesn’t even cover a basic prescrip I have but GOOD RX charges me $150 LESS per month than other MC plans and the Aetna is a $45 give back, so when I pay the Good RX price of $43, it’s a wash.

Will look for a formulary that covers the prescrip at better than GoodRX this AEP.... ymmv

I'm strictly political on AARP. I want them to shrivel up and die. They lobby for everything I hate. Your money will go to Democrat candidates, gun controllers, China lovers, pro dope, pro abortion, pro sodomite, anti American causes. Other than that they are good.

Once you figure out that strangling the money off will take the country back, you will figure out what to do. I don't watch football, Basketball, Baseball, or spend any money on them to the point of canceling cable or DTV because they require you to purchase a "sports package". I listen for indications that a business is left or right to spend my money. I don't buy music or movies anymore,....ever. AARP is a slam dunk for me. I used to send their stuff back in the paid for envelope just to cost them more in postage. Eventually they quit sending crap to me. By the same token, I support conservative things. As an example, I was waiting for "Top Gun" to come out forever. I heard they changed a patch on Maverick's jacket to dis Taiwan, so I decided I couldn't go. Then they said the Taiwan patch was restored, so I went to the theater to support the movie. I'll bet the movie grossed 30% more just on that patch alone. I know a bunch of money went to liberal workers on the movie, but I want them to finally figure out that we want patriotic, clean, God fearing movies.

...they pay AARP via an endorsement agreement, but not from individual contracts. Buy the same coverages directly from United Healthcare with out the AARP branding....

“AARP supported Obamacare. They can rot in hell.”

The board of directors are Dems. My father weighed it carefully and didnt really need these commie pukes, so he sent an email to stop his membership.

I have saved about $4k a year in insurance discounts for Auto and Home. They also have good travel discounts, haven’t used any medical.

...actually Plan F is closed except to grandfathered oldsters just coming into Medicare. Since the pool is closed you want to be in Plan G anyway since that is where all the youngest MC beneficiaries who want full coverage go. There is also a cheaper Plan G High Deductible for healthier folks that done expect surgeries/hospitization at 65-70...
The extra add-ons of Vision, Dental and Hearing are available only with the private Advantage plans. Been a Broker since my disabled late wife was put on MC for her cancer battle. 10 years later happy to give you my opinion on plans if anyone is about to sign up.... ymmv

—> but you can join with a Broker

Got it through a broker and he told us it was a condition of enrolling.

And after I thought about it, I decided it was worth wasting $12 to get the insurance - as I’ve explained upthread.
