A public school teacher in Johnston County is accused of several sex offenses, including the statutory rape of a kid under the age of 15.
English teacher Amanda Doll, 37, of Benson’s West Johnston High School was detained on September 2. According to online court documents, Doll was charged with three felonies: statutory rape of a kid under the age of 15, having intercourse with a student and engaging in indecent acts with a child.
Doll is being held on $1 million dollar bond. She had requested a lower bail so she could return home to her four children.

From your description Newt was never in a position of authority over the teacher.
“stayed in touch with his former math teacher”, so the romance was not carried on at school but post-school.
The relationship was normal, not drag-queen story hour, bondage, anal toys, etc.
