“I swear to God, I’ll f–king take this ball and shove it down your f–king throat!.” — Serena Williams before a national and international TV audience to lineswoman Shino Tsurubuchi during the 2009 US Open.
Well, we media folks have done it again. We’ve taken indisputable, recurring and conspicuous facts and buried them to create a sustainable fiction in service to nervous, cautious lies.
It’s known as the Tiger Woods Media Pandering Syndrome. It’s not enough that Woods and Serena Williams were superior in their sports, among the all-time best. To that, unfiltered nonsense had to be infused:
They were the most noble to have ever played. Their unparalleled goodness may never be surpassed. They were the most extraordinarily positive influences, role models, humanitarians, offspring, spouses, parents and selfless crusaders who have touched our otherwise miserable, desperate souls.
This week, coast to coast and via all form of media, Williams was crowned as more than a world championship tennis player. She is a woman of extraordinary valor and class.
Doesn’t matter how much evidence to the contrary, and there’s plenty. It was wishful, ignorant, obligatory and unnecessary rubbish. Or are the Tiger Woods Impaired Driving Academy and the Serena Williams Charm School coming to a strip mall near you?

Exactly what I remarked to my wife when we tuned in to ESPN for 5 minutes and saw Serena (un-ranked) in a match...during Prime Time...playing against the #2 player in the world.
I was hoping she'd lose and we'd never have to see her again. No such luck.
I never watched it.. I wonder if I missed something?
There are two obstacles. They have to be overcome before she can be held to the same standard as everyone else. They’re her two certified victim cards.
They left the court last night after they got their prodigious asses handed to them without signing any autographs and ignoring the fans totally.................
Sports journalists are the worst when it comes to racial pandering.
They seem to really enjoy poor sportsmanship, unless you are a frizzy-haired redhead then you become the guy everyone tunes in to see get beat.
It appears the entire women’s field is going to tank to give the beast one last pity win.
McEnroe was just as bad but he made us laugh. Angry blacks are scary. That’s why Obama got elected-didn’t scare our guilty conscience. Serena looks too much like an angry gorilla.
Look around. You’ll see in Yahoo the news that the Kapernick’s now are parents. His afro is now supersized. We’re being played.
The over-the-top tributes to Serena Williams this week have made the US Open unwatchable (some may say who watches tennis anyway?). It’s across all media, even on my local sports talk show. Forgotten are her outbursts, her boorish behavior, the fact that she never (or rarely) evinced good sportmanship. I can’t wait for her to be knocked out in singles. Someone has to have the guts to do it. C’mon ladies! Sen her fat a** home! Her sister on the other hand I have no problem with.
Shehemoth?
Venus seems very different personality wise than Serena.
Venus seems very different personality wise than Serena.
Yes she is......................
Mike Tyson in a tennis skirt.
You can take the girl out of the ghetto ...
Indeed she does!
She sure is the darling of TV.
She’s in half the commercials.
Her sister seems to have gone by the wayside.
Except, of course, for the movie about them last year.
I guess the ghetto never leaves.
This is not going to be a Tiger Woods Masters win moment, I suspect she loses tonight and is gone gone gone.
Another excellent Phil Mushnick column.
