The bottom line is this: These resources are absolutely not about increasing audit scrutiny on small business or middle-income Americans. The investment of these important resources is designed to support honest, compliant taxpayers. Our investment is designed around a Treasury directive that audit rates do not rise relative to recent years for households making under $400,000.
We all want a fair and impartial system where everyone contributes their fair share, no more and certainly no less. A robust, visible tax enforcement effort focused on high-end tax evaders and those supporting them is a priority. Underpayments by tax evaders shift the burden of operating our great country onto honest, hard-working Americans who follow the law.
With this new law, honest taxpayers will see badly needed, meaningful service improvements at the IRS. The IRS should be able to answer the phones and process information - including tax returns - in a timely manner. Enhanced IT systems and taxpayer services will mean that honest taxpayers will be better able to comply with the tax laws, ultimately resulting in a lower - yes, lower - likelihood of being audited and a reduced burden on them.
To set the record straight on this important legislation and dispel any lingering misperceptions, here are some key facts to keep in mind:
False Statement: The IRS is hiring 87,000 armed special agents to harass taxpayers.
Reality: Absolutely false. The majority of new hires the IRS makes will be those who answer the phones, work on processing individual tax returns or go after high-end taxpayers or corporations who are avoiding their taxes.

This is the other side of “Defund The Police”.
Obama’s National Police Force.
These people are Satan incarnate.
Haha you expect too much from country club swamp repubs.
To a hammer, everything is a nail.
Thats for sure...
Ebay for example used to have an approved threshold of $20,000 before a 1099 was generated to the IRS. Thanks to some of the first FJB legislation, that number was reduced to $600.
Instant tax increase + onerous record keeping etc for the sellers.
Same thing CA did to attack the “gig” economy...NaziP musta liked it.
Will those 87,000 new auditors have QUOTAS?
My thoughts exactly. I’d love President Trump to run on supporting a consumption tax and abolishing the IRS forever in 2024.
Expect the irs to say the truth? It is now under the control of a fascist administration and has as its goal to extract every cent possible from the people who still are working productively.
So when do you go after Al Sharpton?
Show me a man and I will show you a tax code violation.
My tax attorney made an error last year...and as it turned out, the IRS owed me a small amount as I overpaid taxes. They went over that return with a fine tooth comb hoping to find something. They did. Thanks so much for your help irs.
At the county level, the new and barely trained armed IRS agents will get a list of conservative Republican business owners who are political donors.
Their orders will be to find something, anything, from a prepared list of tips, to shut them down, to ruin them financially, to arrest them, to jail them, to destroy them.
"Proving the case" will not matter, it will just be pure Lawfare, to bankrupt the victims.
Anybody who doesn't see the bitter reality of this IRS expansion at this point in American history is a Pollyanna living in LaLaLand.
Mmmm, oh yeah, that’s right…where is the Jennifer Lawrence meme?…
Using the tax code to “show me the man and I’ll show you the crime” is dead simple since no two accountants can actually agree on what it says. How often do you hear “ the irs is interpreting …”
So what am I to believe? Multiple cases in history or these mealy-mouth promises and platitudes? The ‘D’onkey Party’s sainted FDR used the IRS all of the way back in the 1930s! Since then it has been LBJ and BHO, all with NO PUNISHMENT!
Six months from now there’ll be new definitions for “tax evaders” and “honest”. Add to the list along with “recession”, “vaccine”, etc.
Let me take a shot at unpacking this. Someone who is following the law, but “not paying his ‘fair’ share” is breaking the “law.” I used the word law in the same sentence twice, but it has two different meanings given the bias of the person interpreting whether you are paying “your fair share.”
Also, the reason the IRS targets the middle class is the middle class can’t afford the specialized legal and accounting services necessary to find the exceptions which are nearly infinite. Therefore, the return on investment of IRS time is much greater on the middle class than on the wealthy.
I had an audit after I took a twenty-thousand-dollar deduction for legal services. At stake was whether the lawsuit was about theft or conversion. For one, I could take the deduction, but for the other I couldn’t. Since I knew this would happen, I had the accountant and lawyer write a letter for my files explaining why it was the one and not the other. (Due to the narrow difference any reasonable person could claim the opposite.) The kicker was, I kept the audit open for an entire year, thus ruining the agent’s closure stats. Finally, he let me go with my interpretation. Did I pay “my fair share?” Well, not according to liberals. I can tell you the agent was fuming.
The fact that they have to SAY this, is proof enough that there is EVIL afoot.
what’s all the ammo for?
Tax Accountants and Tax Lawyers?
Soon it will be fuming armed agents....what could go wrong?
