These new electric pickups are wonderful towing companions, aided by massive horsepower and torque that allow for easy merging with the flow of interstate traffic, and their heavy curb weights (between 6855 pounds for the F-150 and 9640 pounds for the Hummer) lend an impressive stability when lugging a three-ton trailer. But you won't want to be going far, as a full battery will take you a mere 100 miles in the Lightning, 110 miles in the R1T, and 140 miles in the Hummer. Although the Hummer consumes electricity at the highest rate of the three, its considerably larger battery pack more than makes up for the difference.
Not only personal transpo. Remember the dollar is tied to oil since Bretton Woods 2. If you collapse the oil industry you collapse the dollar and it will no longer be the standard currency of the world.
Average interstate mileage on a mostly flat route (say Houston to Florida) is roughly 15 mpg. With the trailer it’s a shade over 10.
Add a grade and all bets are off..can be as low as 8 with the airstream in tow.
And charge in ten minutes at any gas station
I believe the term “he” used was , “fundamentally change”.
I read on some of the higher end model EV’s, you can program in what type of horn sound you prefer. The Arabs seem to like the realistic sheep horn. Of course some people in big cities prefer the shotgun blast horn.
Is the Hummer’s significantly larger battery also more likely to burst into flames?
“Basically having both an EV and an ICE is the best of both worlds. ”
If you only need to make short trips.
And the rest of us are paying for that vehicle with the large subsidies they get .
I think electric vehicles would be great. In 30 years when the technology is ready.
Plus all the rolling virtue signaling you get to do....
Why no hybrids? I have a Toyota hybrid, get nearly 60 miles to a gallon. Great daily car around town and for simple road trips. Curious why no trucks or 4x4s.
well taking a month to go the coast is still better than walking./s
Where can you go with only a 100 mile round trip?
Nowhere.
It’s not fit for purpose.
🤣👍
“Add a gasoline powered generator and a 20-gallon gas tank.
Oh wait, that would kind of defeat the purpose”
That is a hybrid and the only Car / SUV I’d consider. 50 MPG, 600+ mile range on some sedans.
My 2011 GMC does just fine with 53,000 miles on the clock.
Wish it got better mileage...
I’m OK with folks buying EVs. I would even consider a reasonably priced one for local driving. Might even be kind of neat. What gets my back up is the govt pushing these things. Let the market decide, unassisted & unmolested, whether EVs make it or not.
(The wife had a Prius. I picked on her about her “roller skate”, but it was a great little car.)
Don’t panic folks it’s just a fad. Wait until they have to replace batteries.
I'm with you -- get rid of the subsidies. All they do is give taxpayer money to the car makers. I'm just saying that EV's bring something to the table beyond virtue signaling to people who believe in warmageddon. If you need 2 cars anyway it's worth considering one of them being an EV.
I can’t stand that stuff. I wish I had a dollar for everyone who assumed I voted Dim because they saw me get out of my EV. I tell them in all honestly that my first vote for the Dims will be sometime after I die.
